Synopsis
The Manager Technical SMS (MT-SMS) reports to the Senior Manager Technical Safety & Compliance (SMTSC). MT-SMS is the interface with the Corporate Safety and Quality Department. He/She is familiar with, enforces and follows the procedures stipulated in the Safety & Quality Management Manual System (SQMM) and becomes an active participant in the Corporate Safety Management System.
The role is required to communicate across the various leadership structures in addition to senior management representatives from external agencies.
Accountabilities
- In collaboration with Corporate Safety and Quality Department, support the coordination with the Competent Authority and other external agencies as required on matters related to existing/new/upcoming regulations which have an impact on Corporate SMS. Liaises with all relevant departments within the airline and specifically within the EY Technical organisation to ensure that related safety policies and procedures are developed/implemented/updated, as required.
- Promotion of regulatory compliance framework, quality control, SMS, safety reporting, safety culture and behaviours within EY Technical. Supporting the Accountable Manager and the Post Holders to review and define Safety Objectives and related Safety Performance Indicators (SPIs) annually and disseminate them to EY Technical personnel.
- Providing periodic reports on Safety and Quality related activities to Post Holders and executives, and data for key safety and airworthiness meetings, such as MESAG, etc.
- Managing and support the trend analysis of Safety and Quality related data within EY Technical organisation and make recommendations to Post Holders with respect to the prioritisation of interventions, risk mitigation and assurance mechanisms to be established and implemented.
- Acts as an information conduit to disseminate safety information (such as Safety Objectives, SPIs, etc.) to the organization’s contractors/subcontractors and stakeholders.
- Administers MESAG meetings and coordinates relevant information from/to the Safety Review Board (SRB) meetings. Builds and maintains an excellent working relationship with the organization’s Safety Action Group (SAG) stakeholders.
- Administer the safety briefings within EY Technical organisation to discuss safety issues, trends related to SPI’s, hazards, occurrences through safety meetings and/or Town Hall meetings.
- Supporting business units with hazard identification, risk assessment, mitigation suggestions and assurance mechanisms (CAPA) to be established and implemented.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Aviation, or Maintenance Engineer License with Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance & Engineering, or equivalent experience;
- 10+ years working experience in the aviation industry, with a minimum of 5+ years of experience implementing and/or managing an SMS;
- An extensive knowledge of safety management systems (SMS) and have completed appropriate SMS training;
- Sound knowledge of relevant civil aviation regulations (with emphasis to CAR X/ CAR M/ CAR 145/ CAR 66/ CAR 147 and EASA/FAA equivalents);
- Experience and qualifications in conducting safety/quality audits and inspections;
- Experience in Aviation Safety Investigation is desirable.
