Médecins Sans Frontières France is looking for Yemeni nationals to recruit for the following position:

Position: MEDICAL DOCTOR
Location: Haydan hospital – Saada governorate.
Contract type: Full time contract.
Opening date: 15/04/2024

Main task:

  • Apply medical knowledge and skills to diagnose and prevention. Carry out emergency, outpatient and inpatient consultations, prescribing the necessary treatment respecting MSF protocols.
  • Keep the patient and/or his/her family informed about the illness and provide appropriate explanations about the treatment to follow, checking they have understood.
  • Follow up the evolution of the hospitalized/IDP patients, through daily visits, consultations and examinations, prescribing the necessary treatment following MSF protocols, deciding whether they can be discharged or transferred to other departments – in collaboration with other doctors- and informing their family about the patient’s evolution.
  • Check and control the rational distribution of medicines and equipment under his/her responsibility and take care the quality, disinfection and sterilization of the medical material. Assure general compliance with standing hygiene standards.
  • Participate in the collection and analysis of epidemiological data, checking its validity and informing the line manager or project coordinator about any problem or complication of the patient’s illness, medical error and monitors the proper functioning of the department, equipment or material.
  • Attend ongoing training of the medical/paramedical multidisciplinary team in order to optimize the quality of care.
  • Know and ensure all MSF medical protocols are followed and implemented. Check universal precautions are followed at all times, minimize bio-hazard risks and always respect infection prevention and control guidelines.
  • Professional and Medical confidentiality must be fully respected at all times.

Context-Specific

  • Respect the time schedule and be at work on time.
  • Apply medical knowledge and skills for diagnosis and prevention.
  • Carry out daily rounds in the assigned department while ensuring MSF guidelines and protocols are followed. Ensure accurate and complete documentation of patient’s findings always.
  • Inform MDS and MAM of any difficulties or challenges in carrying out specific tasks in a timely manner.
  • Participate in grand rounds, morbidity & mortality meetings, training, and other scheduled meetings.

ER duty:

  • Provide and ensure that the best patient care is given through emergency and medical case management.
  • Register complete information about patients’ working diagnosis, differential diagnosis, medical history, clinical findings, and investigations done.
  • Resuscitate and stabilize critical patients by administering medications and conducting life-saving procedures.
  • Assess and make decisions on whether to discharge, refer or admit patients from the ER; consult with MDS and/or MAM, when needed.
  • Examine and treat injuries and refer patients to specialist care when necessary (e.g., surgeon, pediatrician, anesthetist).
  • Maintain good collaboration with MDS/MAM and inform them about any referral cases and/or any issues in ER.
  • Prior to any referral to Saada ensure patient is properly stabilized before transfer.

IPD duty:

  • Conduct daily ward rounds on all patients in pediatric and ITFC; ensure timely emergency review of patients in the hospital when needed/indicated.
  • Always respect and adhere to admission and discharge criteria for all departments.
  • Closely collaborate with Pediatrician, informing him or her about patients of concern and clarifying management plans for complex patients.
  • Manage pediatric malnutrition cases in the ITFC. Advise parents on children’s diet (emphasis on breastfeeding), exercise, and disease preventive measures.
  • Conduct daily ward rounds on all patients in the neonatal unit; ensure timely emergency review of patients in the department when needed/indicated.
  • Closely collaborate with Pediatrician. May always ask for advice and support from the pediatrician. Informing him or her about patients of concern and clarify management plans for complex patients.
  • Attend deliveries, without delay, when requested by maternity or OT to improve newborn resuscitation.
  • Encourage exclusive breastfeeding and advise parents of the benefits of breastfeeding.
  • Conduct daily ward rounds on all patients in the isolation unit and adult IPDs; ensure timely emergency review of patients in the department when needed/indicated.
  • Strictly adhere to all IPC measures for the isolation ward and all other wards.
  • Maintain close contact with the IPC supervisor, communicating any issues or non-adherence to any IPC measures.

Night IPDs duty:

  • Take handover from Day shift GP on HDU Neonates, pediatrics, ITFC, isolation and male and female IPDs. at 8pm.
  • Carry outward rounds of critical patients in Neonates, pediatrics, ITFC, isolation, and male and female IPDs at beginning of the night shift 8:30pm.
  • Attend deliveries, without delay, when requested by maternity or OT to improve newborn resuscitation.
  • Communicate with specialists when necessary (e.g., surgeon, pediatrician, anaesthetist) and MDS/MAM.

OPD:

  • Ensure thorough consultations done of high quality following updated MSF protocols.
  • Assist in the am rounds of IPD patients when requested.
  • After OPD crowded hours - help GP colleagues with work in the IPD and ER as needed.
  • Excellent collaboration with medical colleagues.
  • When referring OPD patients for assessment in ER or other specialties ensure proper handover of patients to the respective doctors.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Essential Medical Doctor Diploma.
  • Essential valid medical license.
  • 2-year experience minimum as a Medical Doctor. Desirable: Post-registration experience in Obs and Gynae, Pediatrics, Infectious diseases, general practice, general medicine, or minor surgery.
  • Experience with MSF or other NGO preferred.
  • Spoken and written English & Arabic is essential.

  • Chewing Qat and smoking is not allowed inside the hospital.
