Job Description – Specialist/Consultant Pediatric Intensive Care (PICU) Location: Abu Dhabi, UAE Department: Pediatrics – Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Employment Type: Full-Time Job Summary We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Specialist/Consultant Pediatric Intensive Care (PICU) physician to join a leading healthcare provider in Dubai, UAE.
The successful candidate will provide comprehensive critical care services to neonates, infants, children, and adolescents with life-threatening medical and surgical conditions.
The physician will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver evidence-based, family-centered care while ensuring the highest standards of patient safety, clinical excellence, and compliance with Dubai Health Authority (DHA) regulations.
Key Responsibilities Assess, diagnose, and manage critically ill pediatric patients admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).
Provide advanced life support and critical care management for respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological, renal, metabolic, infectious, and multisystem disorders.
Manage patients requiring mechanical ventilation, non-invasive ventilation, high-frequency ventilation, and extracorporeal support (where available).
Perform and supervise critical care procedures, including endotracheal intubation, central venous catheter insertion, arterial line placement, chest tube insertion, lumbar puncture, and other procedures as credentialed.
Lead rapid response and pediatric resuscitation teams for critically ill children.
Manage post-operative pediatric surgical and trauma patients requiring intensive care.
Collaborate closely with Pediatric Surgery, Neonatology, Pediatric Cardiology, Pediatric Neurology, Emergency Medicine, Anesthesiology, Infectious Diseases, Respiratory Therapy, and Nursing teams.
Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, family meetings, and discharge planning.
Maintain accurate clinical documentation in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
Participate in clinical audits, morbidity and mortality meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and Continuing Medical Education (CME).
Supervise and mentor junior physicians, residents, fellows, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals.
Ensure compliance with patient safety, infection prevention, and clinical governance standards.

. Qualifications & Requirements MBBS/MD or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
Completion of an accredited residency in Pediatrics.
Fellowship or Board Certification in Pediatric Intensive Care Medicine (PICU) from a recognized international board (American Board, Canadian Board, CCT, FRCPCH, Arab Board, Australian or equivalent).
Minimum 3–5 years of post-specialization experience for Specialist level or 5–10 years for Consultant level , depending on DHA eligibility.
Eligibility for or possession of a DHA Specialist or Consultant License .
Candidates eligible for licensing are encouraged to apply.
Current certification in PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) is required.
BLS and ACLS certifications are preferred.
Demonstrated expertise in pediatric critical care, advanced airway management, mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic monitoring, and pediatric resuscitation.
Excellent communication, leadership, and clinical decision-making skills.
Commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered, evidence-based care.
Preferred Candidate Profile PQR Tier 1 and Tier 2 qualified professionals will be given preference.
Experience working in internationally accredited hospitals is highly desirable.
Candidates with clinical experience in DHA (Dubai), DOH (Abu Dhabi), or MOHAP (Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, and Umm Al Quwain) licensed healthcare facilities are highly preferred.
GCC experience is an added advantage.
Fellowship or additional expertise in Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care, Pediatric ECMO, Pediatric Trauma, Pediatric Critical Care Ultrasound (POCUS), Pediatric Neurocritical Care, or Pediatric Sedation is an added advantage.
Experience in tertiary care children's hospitals or advanced PICU settings is preferred.
Active participation in clinical research, quality improvement initiatives, and medical education is highly desirable.
