Our client is seeking a skilled Honing Operator with Cylindrical Grinding experience to join their production team in Dubai. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up and operating honing and cylindrical grinding machines to manufacture and recondition precision components in accordance with engineering drawings, route cards, and machining procedures. The role requires strong technical knowledge of honing processes, precision measurement, machine setup, and quality standards while ensuring safe and efficient workshop operations.

Honing – Machine Setup & Operation

• Set up and operate large vertical and horizontal honing machines to hone internal surfaces of components such as cylinders, bearings, housings, and connecting rods in accordance with engineering drawings, route cards, and honing procedures.
• Read route cards, engineering drawings, and work orders to determine product specifications, including dimensions, tolerances, number of parts, tooling requirements, spindle speeds, and feed rates.
• Position and set up fixtures on machine tables for the honing process.
• Determine the most appropriate machining methods for each component to ensure quality, efficiency, and compliance with specifications.
• Install and secure honing tools in the spindle and adjust machine settings to control stroke length, depth of cut, tool feed rates, and spindle speed.
• Operate honing machines and control mechanisms to feed and oscillate tools along the workpiece surface.
• Perform honing using various honing stone specifications to achieve precise dimensional tolerances.
• Measure and inspect honed components using dial indicators, micrometers, preset gauges, comparators, and other precision measuring instruments.
• Verify that finished workpieces meet specified tolerances and quality standards, making adjustments where necessary.

• Work from engineering drawings, process sheets, tooling instructions, and standard charts to identify component and manufacturing specifications.
• Interpret engineering drawings to determine workpiece setup requirements and grinding preparation.
• Perform cylindrical and surface grinding operations, including internal and external grinding, to achieve high-precision tolerances.
• Carry out grinding operations on a variety of materials, including carbides and ceramics, using diamond wheels.
• Calculate spindle rotation speeds, feed rates, and machining times required for each operation.
• Apply machining knowledge and experience to determine the most suitable grinding methods for each component.
• Set up, adjust, measure, and verify workpiece dimensions using dial indicators, micrometers, and other precision inspection equipment.
• Verify the quality of finished workpieces through inspection, measurement, template comparison, and functional testing.
• Operate grinding machines, hand tools, and manual machines as required.

• Perform basic preventive maintenance on honing machines, grinding machines, and lathes to ensure they remain in optimal working condition.
• Keep machines, tools, and work areas clean, organized, and free from hazards.
• Support general workshop activities and assist other team members or departments when required.

• Record production and process data accurately using designated documentation.
• Ensure work is completed according to production schedules while meeting quality standards and engineering specifications.
• Adhere to all Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) requirements and company quality procedures throughout production activities.

• High school diploma or equivalent. Technical certification or training in machining or manufacturing is preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in the mechanical and/or oil & gas industry.
• Proven experience operating honing machines or similar precision grinding equipment. Experience operating centre lathes is an advantage.
• Strong knowledge of honing processes, tooling, and work-holding fixtures.
• Experience in cylindrical grinding and precision machining is preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, route cards, work orders, and blueprints.
• Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, dial indicators, preset gauges, and comparators.
• Experience working with different honing stones, grinding wheel specifications, and machining methods.
• Ability to operate and perform basic maintenance on machining equipment while following standard safety procedures.
• Good command of spoken and written English.
• Ability to analyse engineering drawings and blueprints.
• Knowledge of machine and equipment maintenance is an advantage.
• Ability to work with precision tools and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and work in a manufacturing or workshop environment with exposure to machinery, noise, and dust.
