Weld fan casings, impellers, hubs, blades, inlet cones, bases, frames and ducting accessories. The work covers mild steel, galvanized steel, stainless steel and aluminum.
Use MIG/MAG (GMAW) welding mainly. Also use TIG (GTAW) for stainless steel and aluminum, and stick (SMAW) where required.
Read fabrication drawings, weld symbols and the welding procedure specification (WPS). Follow the correct parameters and welding sequence.
Fit up and tack parts using jigs and fixtures. Check dimensions, squareness and alignment before final welding.
Control distortion on thin sheet metal and on rotating parts. This is critical for balancing impellers and keeping them concentric.
Grind and finish welds and prepare surfaces for painting or galvanizing.
Carry out visual self-inspection. Fix defects such as porosity, undercut, cracks and lack of fusion, and support QC with dye penetrant or other inspections.
Keep welding machines, torches and consumables in good condition. Report any faults.
Follow health and safety rules: PPE, hot work permits, fume extraction, fire safety and good housekeeping (5S).
Meet daily production targets and record completed work on job cards.
Desired Candidate Profile
Education and certification
ITI, diploma or trade certificate in welding or fabrication.
A valid welder qualification is preferred, such as 2G/3G (or higher) to ASME IX, AWS D1.1 or ISO 9606. A TWI or third-party certificate is a plus.
Experience
3–5 years in sheet metal and light structural fabrication.
Experience in a fan factory is strongly preferred.
Has worked with stainless steel and aluminum, and on thin-gauge material (1.5–6 mm).
Skills
Produces clean, strong welds with little distortion.
Reads engineering drawings and uses measuring tools: tape, vernier, square and angle gauge.
Basic knowledge of cutting, bending and grinding tools. Operating a plasma cutter or press brake is a plus.
Attributes
Pays close attention to quality, works safely and is disciplined.
Works well in a team and can meet production deadlines.
Physically fit and willing to work shifts or overtime when needed.
