ICT Intern


Role and Responsibilities:


Under the leadership of the Chief TECF, and with direct supervision of the Head of operations FITTEST the intern will benefit from close mentoring, guidance, and technical supervision. Performance planning and reviews as well as learning and development discussions will be an elemental part of the internship experience. With the support of a comprehensive induction package and some exciting soft-skills trainings, the intern will rapidly become a productive member of the team.

 

  • Leadership and interpersonal skills in the team
  • Daily team coordination – globally – planning & explore remote working options.
  • Analyze networking problems and existing telecoms infrastructure, recommend solutions to modify and improve equipment, facilities, and services.
  • Maintain, upgrade or enhance existing systems including troubleshooting and providing continuing technical user support i.e. resolve network problems and advise on use of new techniques;
  • Ensure appropriate data security and access controls considering both local and wide area issues.
  • Engage with Customer Service (CS) team as technical advisory.
  • Advice on logistics movement, structure and staffing levels to ensure that they are adequate to meet the requirements for the logistic support to the operation.
  • Assess the availability of space and prepare stacking/storage plans prior shipments arrival.
  • Produce regular stocks reports and daily stock positions.
  • Overall Cost recovery mechanism and improvements 


Skills

Role Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a IT, electronics, or related technical university program. WFP interns are required to have completed at least two years of their university programme or, if fresh graduates, they should have attended classes in the past 12 months.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communications skills.
  • Good research and analytical skills, resourcefulness, initiative.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work independently.
  • Ability to learn technology quickly through instruction and self-training.
  • Motivated, team player and open to new challenges.
  • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing, transforming technical terminology into easily understood language. 
  • Ability to plan and organize work program; ability to work with minimum supervision under own initiative.
  • Tact and ability to work harmoniously with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills ability to conceptualize issues, think in abstract terms, and analyses numerical data.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, PowerPoint); web skills, knowledge of GIS systems an advantage.
  • Fluency in oral and written English with an intermediate knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is desirable.

 

 


Training components

Throughout their assignment WFP interns have access to an industry-leading learning platform, WeLearn. Depending on opportunities and availability of funds, he/she may participate in WFP workshops or seminars, as appropriate.

 

Learning Elements

At the end of the assignment, the Intern should have:

  • An overview of how WFP works and how TECF & FITTEST are handled in the organization.
  • Know how to run cost recovery operations.
  • Idea on problem-solving skills ability to conceptualize issues, think in abstract terms, and analyze numerical data.
  • Good understanding / experience of the Humanitarian reform / the Cluster Approach and ETC.
  • Basic knowledge in Emergency ICT assessments and analysis, Emergency preparedness and contingency planning.
  • Basic knowledge in tender evaluations, documentation, purchases for the ICT stocks, field operations requests, inbound / outbound equipment and provide full-time support to CS

for TEC related requests.

  • Working knowledge on assembly, configure existing or new solutions before shipping to operations.
  • Basic experience in managing meetings.
  • Basic experience in managing teams.
