As a Staff Backend Engineer, you'll be working shoulder to shoulder with AI engineers, product designers, and founders to ship systems that are modular, scalable, and battle-tested — all while pushing the boundaries of what's possible with autonomous agents. Bonus: You'll work in an environment where using AI tools to boost your own efficiency is expected, not optional.What You Bring• 7+ years of experience as a backend engineer with a proven track record of designing scalable systems in fast-paced environments• Expert in Java - and confident working with microservices, serverless functions, etc.• Experience building distributed systems with tools like Postgre SQL, Redis, Kafka, REST APIs, etc.• Hands-on experience with workflow orchestration engines like Temporal, or equivalent - and building resilient async pipelines• Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures (GCP, AWS, or Azure), containers (Docker), and infra-as-code (Terraform)• A builder's mindset — you thrive in 0-to-1 environments and care about impact• Excellent communication and collaboration skills. You're comfortable working cross-functionally with AI teams, design, and product leadershipWhat You'll Do• Design, build, and scale backend systems that power our AI orchestration engine — including API layers, state management, async job queues, task planners, and more• Collaborate with AI engineers to integrate LLM-based agents, RAG pipelines, vector stores, and multi-agent orchestration tools into a robust backend architecture• Build platform capabilities such as: Agent identity management and secure credentials, Agent task routing and lifecycle management (e.g. using Temporal), Modular plugin and tool-execution infrastructure• Own the API and service architecture used by front-end apps, third-party APIs, and clients• Optimize for performance, observability, and reliability — your work will run thousands of real-world agent workflows every day• Champion clean code, test automation, CI/CD, and documentation across the team• Contribute to platform-level decisions: event streaming, agent memory persistence, auth layers, deployment pipelines, cloud infra, etc.• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, and raise the bar across engineering quality and speed
