Overview

A Marine Mechanical Supervisor oversees the maintenance, repair, and operation of mechanical systems on marine vessels. This role ensures the mechanical integrity and efficient functioning of all shipboard machinery, while leading a team of mechanics and technicians.


Key Responsibilities

1. **Supervision and Leadership**

  - Lead and supervise a team of marine mechanics and technicians.

  - Assign tasks, monitor progress, and ensure timely completion of maintenance and repair activities.

  - Provide training and guidance to team members, promoting skill development and adherence to safety protocols.


2. **Maintenance and Repairs**

  - Oversee the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical systems, including engines, pumps, compressors, and hydraulic systems.

  - Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and extend the lifespan of equipment.

  - Conduct regular inspections to identify potential issues and address them proactively.


3. **Operational Efficiency**

  - Ensure all mechanical systems are operating efficiently and in accordance with manufacturer specifications and maritime regulations.

  - Monitor performance metrics and make adjustments to improve operational efficiency and reduce fuel consumption.

  - Collaborate with other departments to coordinate maintenance activities and minimize disruption to vessel operations.


4. **Safety and Compliance**

  - Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with maritime safety regulations and standards.

  - Conduct safety drills and ensure all team members are familiar with emergency procedures.

  - Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections for regulatory compliance.


5. **Inventory and Resource Management**

  - Manage inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment required for maintenance and repairs.

  - Coordinate with procurement to ensure timely availability of necessary resources.

  - Maintain budgetary oversight and optimize resource allocation to control costs.


6. **Reporting and Documentation**

  - Prepare detailed reports on maintenance activities, equipment performance, and any incidents or issues.

  - Document technical specifications, work orders, and maintenance logs accurately.

  - Communicate effectively with vessel management and other stakeholders regarding the status of mechanical systems and any required actions.

- **Experience:** Several years of experience in marine mechanical maintenance and repair, with a minimum of 2-3 years in a supervisory role.
