JOB PURPOSE:
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for engineering of substation equipment, and overseeing the execution of engineering deliverables (mechanical) for large-scale transmission and distribution projects.
Additionally, the engineer is responsible for conducting feasibility studies, cost estimates, and risk assessments for electrical engineering projects.
Technical Support:
- Review all mechanical drawings and follow scope of works including all other contract specifications, documents of the projects.
- Review material submittals, to ensure their compliance with specifications & contracts.
- Review, monitor & control In-house & sub-contractor’s work progress, performance & recommend sub contractor’s progress payment.
- Review and monitor variations to the work to mitigate time and cost impacts for any required changes.
- Review the technical offers from Vendors during tender/order stage, w.r.t Project SOW specification, codes & standards and UAE fire & safety code.
- Review of equipment and materials submittals by HVAC, FF, LSP & EOT vendors.
- Review of method statements for site installation works.
- Review of QA/QC and safety procedures for MEP works.
Project Execution:
- Ensure work execution in compliance with Project drawings, Specifications, Schedule, Quality requirements & Safety standards.
- Project Management- Supervision of construction activities of HVAC ,FPS, EOT & LSP system.
- Attending progress meetings, review outcomes & identify areas of concern.
- Perform the testing and commissioning of the Fire Fighting system, Double Girder EOT crane, Electrical hoist and HVAC systems.
- Prepare design calculations, design drawings & sketches, as required.
- Ensure all installations are as per the project specifications, contract drawings and as per local and international codes.
Field work:
- Perform field walk downs and inspections to review the work for conformance with the design drawings, specifications, applicable codes and standards, company policies and procedures.
- Prepare and review the method statements, material submittals, technical catalogues, as required, for the progress of project.
- Prepare and update project Schedule by coordination in various disciplines such as Engineering, Construction, Procurement/logistics of capability to work independently.
- Identify job hazard analysis as per appropriate procedure follow to specific work tasks.
- Prepare & review BOQ for the scope of design & construction works, based on the tender specifications and the layout drawings, for internal evaluation and monitoring.
- Support the site team in all aspects of design, engineering and implementation of mechanical works.
Collaboration and communication:
- Collaborate with sub-contractors during the construction period.
- Collaborate with site engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to address and resolve identified snag points.
- Coordination with Civil and Electrical Site team during construction phase at site.
- Closely coordinate with Vendors, Consultants and Owner engineers to timely finalize the design requirement.
- Coordinate with sub-contractors for procurement of materials and panels.
- Coordinate with internal team members for implementation and concurrence to the standards & adherence to Quality system.
Skills
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION:
- Bachelor’s or a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
EXPERIENCE:
- A minimum of 11+ years of relevant experience as a Mechanical Engineer, from the energy & power industry in the GCC/UAE.
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:
- Proficient with design coordination.
- Superior knowledge and understanding of Air Cooled and Water Cooled Plants, Primary & Secondary Pumping System, Cooling Towers, Air Handling Units and Heat Recovery System.
- Exceptional understanding of core concepts including mechanics, thermodynamics and materials science.
- Strong command of mechanical construction works.
- Strong presentation and communication skills with the ability to present complex, technical information to a wide audience.
- Competent in technical writing, systems development and utilization.
