Job description:
The Procurement Engineer for MEP is responsible for managing the procurement process for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems and materials used in construction and infrastructure projects. This role involves sourcing suppliers, negotiating contracts, managing suppliers’ performance, and ensuring timely delivery of materials in alignment with project requirements. The Procurement Engineer works closely with project managers, engineers, and vendors to ensure cost-effective procurement solutions while maintaining quality, safety, and sustainability standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Procurement Planning and Strategy:
- Develop procurement plans for MEP systems and materials in collaboration with project teams.
- Analyze project requirements and ensure the procurement of materials and services aligns with the project’s timeline and budget.
- Assist in the preparation of procurement budgets and cost estimates for MEP-related purchases.
- Supplier Selection and Vendor Management:
- Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers for MEP equipment, materials, and services.
- Establish and maintain relationships with reliable suppliers and subcontractors.
- Negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing with vendors to ensure favorable procurement conditions.
- Conduct market research to stay updated with the latest MEP products and solutions.
- Procurement Execution:
- Prepare and issue purchase orders for MEP materials, equipment, and services.
- Ensure the timely and cost-effective delivery of goods and services.
- Monitor supplier performance and ensure adherence to agreed terms, delivery schedules, and quality standards.
- Coordinate with logistics and warehouse teams for proper handling and storage of MEP materials.
- Documentation and Compliance:
- Maintain accurate records of all procurement transactions, including purchase orders, contracts, and supplier correspondence.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and local regulations in procurement processes.
- Keep track of warranty periods and after-sales support for MEP products.
- Cost Control and Budget Management:
- Monitor and track expenditures for MEP procurement to ensure alignment with the budget.
- Propose cost-saving measures without compromising quality or project specifications.
- Evaluate and recommend alternative products or suppliers that offer cost-effective solutions.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with project engineers, MEP design teams, and construction managers to ensure the procurement of the correct materials and systems.
- Provide technical advice on MEP systems, specifications, and equipment for procurement decisions.
- Ensure clear communication with internal stakeholders regarding procurement timelines and issues.
- Quality Assurance and Risk Management:
- Ensure that procured MEP materials meet the required specifications and quality standards.
- Perform risk assessments for suppliers and address any potential issues related to supply chain or product quality.
- Resolve issues related to defective products, delayed shipments, or non-compliance with specifications.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience (3+ years) in procurement, preferably in the MEP sector or construction industry.
- Knowledge of MEP systems, materials, and services.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in procurement software, MS Office Suite, and other relevant tools.
- Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong understanding of construction project timelines, budgets, and specifications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with international procurement and sourcing in MEP.
- Familiarity with sustainable procurement practices.
- Certification in Procurement or Supply Chain Management (e.g., CPSM, CIPS) is a plus.
