Job Title: Senior Musical Theatre Teacher

Dept/Faculty: Musical Theatre

Location: Diverse Performing Arts Centre, The Curve Building, Al Quoz 3, Dubai

Responsible to: Principals (Scott Marshall and Lisa Marshall) and Vice-Principal

Internal/External Contacts: Senior Managers, Students, UK and International Industry Professionals


1. Role Overview

The Senior Musical Theatre Teacher will play a key role in delivering high-quality musical theatre education, fostering a culture of creativity, excellence, and professionalism. The ideal candidate will have a clear vision for the artistic and educational development of students up to 18 years of age, preparing them for exams, performances, and potential professional careers. This position involves teaching across multiple levels, directing musical theatre productions, and collaborating closely with both staff and students to ensure exceptional training and performance opportunities.


2. Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Artistic Development

  • Deliver engaging and inspiring musical theatre classes across a range of age groups and skill levels.
  • Teach on the BTEC International Level 3 Performing Arts Programme.
  • Teach singing, ensuring students of all levels develop strong vocal technique and performance skills.
  • Play piano to support rehearsals, classes, and student performances.
  • Serve as musical director for productions, ensuring high-quality musical interpretation and performance.
  • Develop and musically direct at least one full-length musical theatre production annually, in addition to supporting two other major productions throughout the year.
  • Design and implement a curriculum that aligns with industry standards and fosters student growth, preparing them for exams, auditions, and professional opportunities.


Production and Performance Management

  • Collaborate with heads of department, production teams, and external creatives to design, stage, and produce high-quality performances.
  • Direct the musical elements of productions, including vocal direction and accompaniment.
  • Assist head of department in all stages of production, from initial concept and pre-production planning to final performance, ensuring smooth execution and artistic integrity.
  • Manage auditions, rehearsals, and student performances to maintain professional standards.


Operational Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule, and oversee classes, rehearsals, and events, ensuring alignment with the broader goals of Diverse Performing Arts Centre.
  • Maintain health and safety standards across all teaching practices, rehearsals, and performances.
  • Manage departmental resources efficiently, ensuring an optimal balance between creativity and cost-effectiveness.
  • Foster relationships with industry professionals to provide students with real-world insight and opportunities.




Skills

3. Required Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years' teaching experience in musical theatre.
  • Proven ability to teach musical theatre in both group and one-to-one settings.
  • Proficient in playing piano to accompany classes, rehearsals, and performances.
  • Experienced musical director with the ability to arrange and direct musical components of theatre productions.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related subject (preferred).
  • Industry experience in performing arts, with a deep understanding of professional musical theatre standards and expectations.
  • Strong creative vision, capable of transforming scripts and scores into compelling, innovative productions.
  • Extensive knowledge of musical theatre repertoire, vocal/movement techniques, and performance history.
  • Charismatic, hard-working, and able to work effectively as part of a collaborative team.
  • Exceptional communication, organisational, and mentoring skills.


4. Desirable

  • Experience teaching BTEC Level 3 in Performing Arts.
  • Industry connections or professional experience that can offer students unique insights into the world of musical theatre.
