Description
In this role, you will provide specialized care to oncology and autoimmune patients receiving intravenous or subcutaneous treatments at an ambulatory infusion centre. You will collaborate with doctors, pharmacists, patient coordinators, and nursing leadership to ensure safe, effective, and compassionate care at every step of the patient journey. Role &
Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively with clinical and front desk staff to ensure highest level of patient care.
- Demonstrate clear communication and effective collaboration to optimize patient care and clinic operations.
- Provide intake including vital signs, medication reconciliation, and health history.
- Assess and document the biometrics and health status of the patient.
- Review approved treatment protocols and verify accurate chemotherapy dose calculations based on patient-specific parameters.
- Prepare medications by mixing with diluent solution.
- Prepare patients for infusion or injection.
- Deliver infusions or injections in accordance with prescribed protocols.
- Monitor patients' vital signs and reactions during infusion, ensuring proper medication administration and patient comfort. • Provide onsite supervision for all patients.
- Adhere to standards of safety and infection control, in the delivery of patient care.
- Ensure patient care is documented in the Electronic Health Record.
- Respond to medication reactions by following defined procedures.
- Reinforce patient and family education regarding disease processes and treatment side effects.
- Triage infusion patient inquiries.
- Communicate with referring/prescribing providers, such as order clarification, patient status, and plan of care.
- Keep environment clean and disinfected after each patient use.
- Assist in maintaining medical inventory and supplies.
- Assist with audits and regulatory functions, as needed.
- Assist with annual staff review process including skill competency assessments.
- Participate in performance improvement activities for the enhancement of care delivery, offering suggestions and assistance towards the continuous quality improvement of patient care.
- Work at multiple centers/ facilities within a market as needed.
Skills
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong understanding of chemotherapy/infusion therapies and drug interactions.
- Skilled in preparing medications, administering infusions, and monitoring reactions.
- Proficiency with infusion pumps and related equipment.
- Excellent patient communication and emotional support skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate and organized electronic medical records.
- Knowledge of patient care regulations, infection control, and safety standards.
- Strong ethics, teamwork, and a positive attitude.
- Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Calm, patient, and attentive to details.
Education & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
- Valid Nursing License - home country + SCHS eligibility.
- 1+ year of chemotherapy/infusion experience.
- 3+ years of general nursing experience.
