The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in the College of Engineering at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor in Geotechnical/Geo-Environmental Engineering. Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. in Geotechnical/Geo-environment Engineering. A Bachelorâs Degree in Civil Engineering is a must. The candidate is expected to establish a sustainable research program, make significant scholarly contributions to the discipline, be an effective teacher and mentor of both undergraduate and graduate students, and engage in institutional and professional service. We seek applicants who work at the frontiers of their research areas and can complement existing research expertise within the Department, the College of Engineering, and the University. Research areas of particular interest include but are not limited to soil-structure interaction, bio-mediated and sustainable soil improvement for infrastructure resilience, climate-responsive behavior of problematic soils, techno-economic analysis, big data analytics, and AI applications in civil engineering. The successful applicants are expected to bridge traditional civil engineering disciplines with emerging digital technologies, advancing research and education in civil engineering. The successful candidate is expected to teach undergraduate- and graduate-level courses in Civil Engineering related areas as well as to assist in delivering basic engineering courses. The candidate must have demonstrated potential for effective teaching, independent research, and scholarly activities. Successful candidates will have access to world-class laboratory facilities, a strong pool of graduate students, and internal research grant funding opportunities, including a startup research grant. The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with Research Centers within the University. The application package should include a cover letter, a detailed resume, a brief description of current/future research activities, teaching philosophy, courses taught, in addition to names and contact information of three references. English is the language of instruction and communication in the College of Engineering. The anticipated start date is August 2026. Screening of applications will continue until the position is filled. Expected Duties - Teach undergraduate- and graduate-level courses and supervise capstone graduation projects in the area of Geotechnical and/or Geo-Environmental Engineering. - Attract externally funded research projects and conduct original research that leads to publications in top-ranked international journals. - Contribute to advising and mentoring of undergraduate and postgraduate students including supervision of M.Sc. and Ph.D. students. - Provide services to the community, the society, and the university. - Play an active role in promoting the growth of the College of Engineering at the United Arab Emirates University.


Minimum Qualifications:


Applicants must hold a Ph.D. Degree in Civil Engineering from a reputable international University. The candidate B.Sc. degree is a must to be in Civil Engineering. Industrial and professional experience is considered an advantage.


Experience/Skills:


Assistant/Associate Professor in Geotechnical/Geo-Environmental Engineering - Sustained record of high-quality publications in leading international journals in Geotechnical and/or Geo-Environmental Engineering. - Ability to develop independent research, secure research funds, and establish a strong network with industrial partners. - Experience with laboratory testing, field investigations, and numerical modeling relevant to Geotechnical/Geo-Environmental Engineering. - Ability to teach a variety of undergraduate- and graduate-level courses and develop new courses or course components. - Strong communication skills and ability to work collegially and collaboratively with diverse internal and external constituencies. - Familiarity with outcome-based education and accreditation processes (e.g., ABET or equivalent). - Willingness to contribute to curriculum development and continuous program improvement.


Preferred Qualifications:


Preferred qualifications include ability to teach a variety of undergraduate- and graduate-level courses, develop new courses or course components, effective communication skills, and ability to work collegially and collaboratively with diverse internal and external constituencies.
