Roles & Responsibilities
The Quality Controller is responsible for ensuring that all joinery products, materials, and installation works comply with approved project specifications, quality standards, and client requirements. The role oversees quality inspections throughout the production and installation process, identifies non-conformities, and works closely with production and site teams to implement corrective actions, ensuring the highest standards of workmanship and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
1. Incoming Material Inspection
Inspect all incoming materials, including timber, veneers, laminates, hardware, fittings, adhesives, and accessories.
Verify materials against approved samples, specifications, purchase orders, and project requirements.
Identify non-conforming materials and coordinate with Procurement for replacement or corrective action.
Ensure only approved materials are released to production.
2. Production Quality Control
Monitor all stages of production, including cutting, machining, assembly, edge banding, polishing, painting, finishing, and packing.
Ensure workmanship, dimensional accuracy, and product quality comply with approved shop drawings and project specifications.
Conduct in-process inspections to identify and rectify quality issues before final production.
Verify compliance with approved mock-ups and client-approved samples.
3. Final Product Inspection
Perform final inspections of completed joinery items before dispatch.
Verify finishing quality, colour consistency, alignment, dimensions, fittings, accessories, labels, and overall appearance.
Ensure products are free from defects, scratches, damages, or workmanship issues.
Approve products for delivery only after meeting quality standards.
4. Site Installation Quality Control
Inspect installation works at project sites to ensure proper fixing, alignment, levelling, finishing, and coordination with other trades.
Verify installation complies with approved shop drawings and project specifications.
Conduct site quality inspections during various stages of installation.
Prepare snag lists and monitor completion of rectification works before handover.
5. Non-Conformance & Corrective Actions
Identify quality defects, non-conformities, and workmanship issues.
Raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) where required.
Coordinate with production, site teams, and project managers to implement corrective and preventive actions.
Verify effectiveness of corrective actions before closing NCRs.
6. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain quality inspection reports, checklists, NCRs, snag lists, punch lists, and inspection records.
Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly quality reports.
Maintain records of inspection approvals, corrective actions, and quality performance.
Ensure all quality documentation is complete, accurate, and properly filed.
7. Quality Compliance
Ensure compliance with approved shop drawings, project specifications, client requirements, and company quality standards.
Verify workmanship complies with applicable industry standards and best practices.
Support internal and external quality audits.
Promote continuous improvement in production and installation quality.
8. Coordination & Communication
Coordinate with Production, Project Managers, Site Engineers, Installation Teams, Procurement, and Design departments.
Attend production and site coordination meetings when required.
Communicate quality concerns and recommend improvement measures.
Support client and consultant inspections during factory and site visits.
Qualifications & Experience
Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Wood Technology, Interior Fit-Out, or a related field.
Minimum 5 years of experience in quality control within the joinery, fit-out, furniture manufacturing, or construction industry.
Strong knowledge of joinery production processes, woodworking materials, finishing techniques, and installation practices.
Experience in factory inspections and site quality control.
Familiarity with quality management systems, inspection procedures, and NCR processes.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and quality documentation.
