Roles & Responsibilities

Strategy Development & Implementation

  • Sets EGA’s Safety and Governance strategy and framework in alignment with the organization's ESG & Sustainability strategy, purpose, aspirations, and values.

  • Directs the implementation of the functional strategy, ensuring alignment with EGA’s vision, mission, corporate objectives, and Group strategy.

  • Ensures functional strategies and strategic plans are effectively developed and executed.

  • Provides subject matter expertise and strategic counsel to EGA leadership on all Safety and Governance matters.

  • Shares approved strategies with local and regulatory authorities, where appropriate, to obtain feedback and support continuous improvement.

Leadership

  • Leads the achievement of functional objectives by setting clear goals, managing performance, and developing and motivating teams.

  • Establishes SMART KPIs to measure individual and departmental performance against organizational objectives and values.

  • Drives talent development initiatives in collaboration with discipline experts to ensure business capability and succession.

  • Promotes organizational values and ethics by acting as a role model and fostering a value-driven culture.

  • Oversees effective coordination with internal departments to ensure timely information flow and service delivery.

Budgeting & Financial Performance

  • Oversees the preparation and consolidation of the functional budget.

  • Monitors financial performance against budget, identifies improvement opportunities, and supports cost optimization initiatives.

Policies, Systems, Processes & Procedures

  • Develops company-wide Safety policies, systems, processes, and procedures and monitors their effectiveness.

  • Ensures implementation of corporate procedures and guidelines across all business operations.

  • Communicates relevant Safety and Governance initiatives, policies, and updates throughout the organization.

Safety Governance

  • Provides functional leadership in developing and maintaining EGA’s Safety Governance framework.

  • Oversees the implementation of safety policies, systems, procedures, and controls to ensure legislative and organizational compliance.

  • Advises and guides management on safety responsibilities and governance requirements.

  • Ensures the implementation, review, updating, and auditing of EGA Safety Management Systems.

  • Monitors Safety System procedures and updates them in line with legislative changes and EGA directives.

  • Plans, leads, and coordinates safety improvement projects across all EGA sites.

  • Leads safety meetings, inspections, compliance reviews, and corrective action programs.

  • Oversees safety and compliance audits.

  • Directs the implementation and maintenance of comprehensive corporate safety programs.

  • Provides technical guidance to site safety teams and ensures compliance with local safety regulations.

EGA Site Safety

  • Leads and directs day-to-day safety operations across all EGA sites.

  • Has the authority to stop operations that present unacceptable safety risks.

  • Drives proactive initiatives to reduce workplace injuries and incidents.

  • Leads major incident investigations and oversees investigation reporting.

  • Reviews accident and incident reports to ensure corrective actions are implemented.

  • Oversees planning and delivery of safety training programs across all organizational levels.

  • Reviews and enhances safety training programs for continuous improvement.

  • Conducts safety inspections and audits to verify compliance with safety procedures.

  • Directs analysis of accident and incident trends and develops improvement plans.

  • Provides expert safety advice and support to Area Management.

International Safety

  • Develops and implements comprehensive training programs aligned with international safety standards.

  • Leads global safety awareness initiatives through workshops, campaigns, and knowledge-sharing activities.

  • Establishes and maintains standardized systems for reporting safety incidents and compliance across international operations.

  • Reviews and updates safety procedures to ensure alignment with international regulations and industry best practices.

  • Monitors compliance across international operations through audits, inspections, and corrective action programs.

Stakeholder Management

  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders while upholding the highest standards of business ethics.

  • Ensures timely resolution of critical issues and effective delivery of organizational support services.

Safety, Quality & Environment

  • Ensures compliance with all Safety, Quality, and Environmental policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

  • Promotes a safe workplace while supporting environmental sustainability and legislative compliance.

Change Management

  • Leads continuous improvement initiatives by enhancing systems, processes, and practices in line with global standards and evolving business requirements.

Reporting

  • Ensures all functional reports are prepared accurately, submitted on time, and comply with EGA policies, standards, and reporting requirements.

Desired Candidate Profile

  • Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline such as Safety Management or HSSE.

    • Professional Certification or Diploma in Safety Management.

    • Lead Auditor certification.

    Minimum Experience

    • 12 years of safety experience in an industrial environment, including at least 4 years in a safety management role.

    Skills & Abilities

    • Risk assessment and management.

    • Knowledge of administrative policies and procedures.

    • Familiarity with project and departmental budgeting processes and tools.

    • Knowledge of project controls.

    • Conceptual planning ability.

    • Conflict management and problem-solving skills.

    • Strong leadership capability.

    • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
