The Role We are seeking an experienced Production Engineering Manager to lead production engineering strategy, process optimization, manufacturing performance, equipment reliability, capacity improvement, and continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will bridge engineering and production operations, ensuring manufacturing processes are efficient, reliable, scalable, safe, cost-effective, and capable of consistently meeting quality and customer requirements. Key Responsibilities Develop and implement production engineering strategies aligned with manufacturing and business objectives. Lead production engineering activities across manufacturing lines, facilities, equipment, and production processes. Analyze production processes to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, capacity constraints, and improvement opportunities. Develop and optimize manufacturing processes, work methods, layouts, equipment configurations, and production flows. Provide engineering support for daily production operations and technical problem resolution. Lead root-cause analysis for recurring production, equipment, process, and quality issues. Develop corrective and preventive actions to improve production performance and reliability. Improve production capacity, throughput, cycle times, yield, productivity, and equipment utilization. Evaluate production requirements and determine appropriate equipment, tooling, automation, and process technologies. Lead engineering studies, feasibility assessments, trials, prototypes, and production validation activities. Manage production engineering projects from concept and design through implementation, commissioning, and stabilization. Coordinate with Manufacturing, Maintenance, Quality, Supply Chain, Procurement, Safety, IT, and Product Development teams. Develop production layouts, process flows, equipment specifications, line-balancing models, and technical documentation. Conduct capacity analysis and develop plans to support production growth and changing demand. Lead manufacturing line expansions, relocations, modifications, upgrades, and new line installations. Support new product introduction and ensure products can be manufactured efficiently and consistently. Review product designs for manufacturability, assembly, materials, tolerances, tooling, and production requirements. Implement Design for Manufacturing and Design for Assembly principles where applicable. Develop and validate manufacturing processes, standard work instructions, operating parameters, and process controls. Establish production engineering standards, specifications, procedures, and engineering change controls. Manage engineering changes and assess their impact on production, quality, cost, capacity, and delivery. Coordinate equipment installation, commissioning, qualification, testing, and production acceptance. Establish preventive maintenance requirements in collaboration with Maintenance and Reliability teams. Monitor equipment performance, downtime, failure patterns, and technical reliability. Support automation initiatives including robotics, machine vision, controls, sensors, and digitally enabled production systems. Evaluate opportunities for process automation, mechanization, and advanced manufacturing technologies. Develop and maintain process capability studies, production standards, and technical performance requirements. Monitor process variation and implement improvements to increase stability and repeatability. Work closely with Quality teams to reduce defects, scrap, rework, and customer complaints. Support statistical process control, process capability analysis, and quality improvement programs. Develop engineering solutions to improve material utilization, energy efficiency, labor productivity, and operating costs. Evaluate capital investment proposals for production equipment, tooling, automation, and facility improvements. Develop business cases covering capital expenditure, operating costs, productivity gains, capacity benefits, and ROI. Manage production engineering budgets, resources, contractors, and external technical service providers. Monitor engineering project schedules, costs, risks, technical deliverables, and implementation quality. Ensure production processes comply with applicable safety, environmental, quality, regulatory, and engineering requirements. Participate in production risk assessments, process hazard reviews, and operational safety initiatives. Develop contingency plans for critical equipment failures, capacity constraints, and production disruptions. Maintain engineering documentation, equipment records, drawings, specifications, process parameters, and change histories. Use manufacturing data, production analytics, MES, ERP, SCADA, and other digital tools to identify improvement opportunities. Develop production dashboards covering throughput, efficiency, downtime, yield, quality, and engineering performance. Identify emerging manufacturing technologies and assess their potential operational and commercial value. Lead Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, value-stream improvement, and other continuous improvement initiatives. Train and develop production engineers, technical specialists, and manufacturing personnel. Establish engineering competency requirements, technical training plans, and knowledge-sharing practices. Provide management with regular reports covering production performance, engineering projects, technical risks, costs, capacity, and improvement opportunities. The candidate should demonstrate:Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, production systems, equipment, and industrial engineering principles. Experience leading production engineering teams and manufacturing improvement programs. Strong knowledge of process optimization, line balancing, capacity planning, and productivity improvement. Experience with equipment commissioning, process validation, troubleshooting, and production ramp-up. Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and continuous improvement methodologies. Experience supporting new product introduction and Design for Manufacturing. Knowledge of automation, robotics, controls, sensors, and modern manufacturing technologies. Strong analytical and root-cause-analysis capabilities. Experience using production data and engineering metrics to drive decisions. Strong understanding of quality systems, process controls, and manufacturing standards. Experience managing capital projects, engineering budgets, vendors, and technical contractors. Strong project-management and stakeholder-management capabilities. Excellent communication and technical presentation skills. Ability to manage multiple engineering projects, production priorities, and operational risks. Familiarity with ERP, MES, SCADA, CAD, maintenance, and manufacturing analytics systems. Strong understanding of workplace safety and engineering compliance. Experience working with international and distributed teams. A practical, data-driven, and continuous-improvement mindset.
