The purpose of the job of a ‘Head of the Department ’ is for providing guidance and support to the instructional team with specific responsibility for monitoring and raising the standards of curriculum instruction of the department, improving the standards of subject/language level expertise among the staff, all the relevant activities related to the board exam preparations for the subject/language, focusing on the board exam results and paving the way to develop excellence in the subject/language; support the staff in their performance development; plan, create and execute programmes to achieve the departmental goals.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

1. Following the ethical code of professionalism

2. Teaching – Curriculum Instruction management

3. Department Developmental Plan synchronous with the SDP

4. Develop departmental objectives and goals

5. Develop Department Events Calendar involving all grades and all aspects of the subject learning

6. Evaluation & Analysis of Performance of Students in the subject/language

7. Tracking the performance of students for board exams

8. Evaluation & Analysis of Performance of Department Teachers

9. Curriculum construction for the subject throughout the grades for whole school

10. Securing accountability of department staff

11. Continuous professional development of self and the team

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS

1. Effective team work with colleagues

2. Integration of ICT and learning/experiencing of UAE culture in the curriculum and facilitation

3. Developing Department Publications – Newsletters, handbook, etc.

4. Recording & Reporting of all the activities/events/visits held by the department

5. Career Prospects for the students choosing the Subject

6. Innovation and initiatives– 1 per month

7. Accountability to all the resources and facilities of the Department ensuring optimum utilization

8. Budget Preparation and Requisition of resources for the Department

9. Accountable for all the Departmental/Subject Displays across the School

10. Undertake such other duties that may be required from time to time or whenever necessary for the smooth running of the school, as may be reasonably assigned. (e.g. emergency cover/substitution etc.)

Desired Candidate Profile

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION: Post Graduate degree and a teaching degree EXPERIENCE: 5-8 years in teaching leadership position EQUIVALENCY: Required from the Ministry of Education TESTING & LICENSING: As per the Ministry of Education/ADEC CONTINUING EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIRED
