Job Overview:
The Commis Chef is an entry-level role in the kitchen, responsible for assisting chefs in preparing ingredients, cooking basic dishes, and maintaining cleanliness. This position offers an opportunity to learn and develop culinary skills while gaining experience across different sections of the kitchen.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with food preparation, including chopping vegetables, prepping meats, and organizing ingredients.
- Follow instructions from senior chefs to help with cooking tasks such as boiling, frying, and grilling.
- Maintain kitchen hygiene by cleaning workstations, equipment, and tools after use.
- Help in stock management, ensuring ingredients are properly stored and rotated to reduce waste.
- Support senior chefs during service by delivering ingredients, preparing garnishes, and plating dishes as needed.
- Adhere to all food safety and hygiene standards.
- Assist in the basic cooking of dishes and practice different cooking techniques.
- Participate in team training sessions and continuously work to improve culinary skills.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Previous experience in a kitchen or relevant education in culinary arts (preferred but not required).
- Willingness to learn and develop culinary skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and work well in a team.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Basic knowledge of kitchen operations, cooking techniques, and food safety.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
