HEAD PASTRY CHEF

We’re seeking a Head Pastry Chef to lead production, guide our team, and help shape our signature offerings.

This is a unique opportunity to join from the ground up in a new concept cake shop — building structure, consistency, and creativity in a bakery that values both tradition and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

Bakery Operations:

  • Oversee daily production of bundt cakes, breads, and related baked goods, ensuring consistency in taste, quality, and presentation.
  • Organize and delegate daily tasks for smooth and efficient operations across two shifts.

Recipe Development:

  • Create, test, and refine recipes — updating and expanding the menu to highlight fresh, seasonal, and customer-driven ideas.
  • Collaborate with the owner to perfect existing home-style recipes for commercial production.

Team Leadership:

  • Supervise, train, and mentor bakers to maintain high standards of craftsmanship and efficiency.
  • Provide clear direction, uphold kitchen discipline, and encourage a positive, growth-oriented environment.

Inventory & Ordering:

  • Manage bakery inventory, monitor ingredient levels, and place orders as needed.
  • Ensure proper storage, labeling, and rotation of ingredients to minimize waste and maintain freshness.

Quality Control:

  • Monitor preparation and presentation of all baked goods, ensuring every product meets brand and quality standards.
  • Conduct regular tastings and visual checks to maintain consistency.

Cost Management:

  • Maintain cost-effective operations by controlling ingredient usage, reducing waste, and maximizing productivity.

Health, Safety & Hygiene:

  • Ensure full compliance with all food safety and sanitation regulations (HACCP or equivalent).
  • Maintain a clean, organized kitchen, including workstations, refrigerators, and storage areas.
  • Ensure bakery equipment is properly maintained and schedule repairs or maintenance as needed.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Proven experience as a Head Baker, Senior Baker, or Pastry Chef in a bakery or pastry production environment (minimum 3–5 years in a leadership role).
  • Education: Formal training in culinary arts or pastry specialization preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Mastery of baking and pastry techniques, including recipe formulation, decorating, and presentation.
  • Knowledge: Deep understanding of ingredients, baking science, and commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Leadership: Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to train, inspire, and manage a small team.
  • Creativity: Ability to design visually appealing, innovative, and flavorful baked goods aligned with the bakery’s brand vision.
  • Reliability: Excellent time management, organization, and accountability.
