Job Title

IoT Deployment Engineer (Field + Design) Salary 5,000-7000AED Depending on experience plus discretionary bonus. (Visa & health insurance included)

Location

UAE based, with regional travel as needed (industrial sites and residential properties)

Role Overview

We are hiring an IoT Deployment Engineer who can handle both field execution and design. This person plans the deployment, installs and commissions IoT systems on site, validates connectivity end to end, and produces clean documentation for operations. The work covers industrial environments (plants, utilities, farms, warehouses, construction sites) and residential deployments (smart home, villas, compounds, building systems).

Key Responsibilities

1) Site Survey and Deployment Planning

  • Conduct pre deployment site surveys for power, mounting, network coverage, interference, and environmental risks (heat, dust, moisture, vibration).
  • Define the system architecture for each site: sensors, gateways, edge compute, connectivity, and cloud integration.
  • Produce a deployment plan including device placement, gateway strategy, network topology, and commissioning steps.
  • Create Bill of Materials and deployment checklist per project.
  • Coordinate site access, safety requirements, and installation scheduling with client teams and contractors.

2) Field Installation and Commissioning

  • Install and commission IoT devices: sensors, gateways, edge computers, controllers, and networking equipment.
  • Execute low voltage wiring and terminations where applicable, and coordinate electricians when higher power work is required.
  • Configure and validate connectivity: Wi Fi, Ethernet, LoRaWAN, BLE, Zigbee, Z Wave, cellular (4G/5G, LTE M, NB IoT) depending on the solution.
  • Perform on site testing: signal quality, packet loss, latency, power stability, sensor calibration, and data integrity checks.
  • Commission the full data path: sensor to gateway to cloud to dashboard and alerts.
  • Troubleshoot issues across power, RF, networking, firmware configuration, and backend integration.

3) Integration with Industrial and Building Systems

  • Integrate with common industrial and building protocols where needed:
  • Modbus RTU and TCP
  • BACnet
  • OPC UA (via gateways or middleware)
  • MQTT for telemetry
  • Interface with PLC and SCADA environments in a safe and controlled manner, following site rules and change control.
  • Validate data mapping, tags, and alarm logic in coordination with controls teams.

4) Design Support and Engineering Deliverables

  • Support device selection and system design based on requirements, environment, and cost.
  • Define power strategy: mains, DC supply, solar, battery, PoE, and backup options.
  • Specify mounting hardware and enclosures (IP ratings, cable glands, strain relief, corrosion resistance).
  • Create installation drawings and connection diagrams, including labeling and cable schedules where needed.
  • Produce as built documentation after installation.

5) Operations, Maintenance, and Quality

  • Set up remote monitoring, health checks, and alerting for device uptime and data quality.
  • Establish preventive maintenance schedules, spare parts list, and replacement procedures.
  • Train client operators or internal technicians on basic operations and troubleshooting.
  • Maintain clean project records and version control for configurations.
  • Ensure security basics are followed: device identity, key handling, access control, and secure remote access.

Deliverables You Will Own

  • Site survey report with recommended device and gateway placement
  • Connectivity plan with coverage assumptions and constraints
  • Bill of Materials and installation checklist
  • Commissioning report including test results and acceptance criteria
  • As built documentation: wiring, device inventory, configurations, and network settings
  • Handover pack: SOPs, maintenance plan, and escalation process

Performance Indicators

  • Successful first time commissioning rate and reduced revisit frequency
  • Uptime and data completeness after handover
  • Deployment speed versus plan without compromising quality
  • Clean, consistent documentation that allows smooth maintenance
  • Client acceptance and reduced post deployment support load

Working Conditions

  • Mix of field work and design work
  • Travel to sites, sometimes early morning or after hours commissioning
  • Work in hot outdoor environments and active industrial locations when required

Any other requirements as assigned.

Application Requirements

  • CV and brief portfolio of projects showing at least two real deployments
  • A short description of a challenging field issue you diagnosed and resolved
  • Availability and expected compensation range

Skills

Required Skills and Experience

  • 3 plus years in IoT deployments, networking, field engineering, or systems integration
  • Strong practical knowledge of:
  • IP networking fundamentals (DHCP, DNS, VLANs, routing basics, firewalls)
  • Wireless fundamentals (RSSI, SNR, interference, antenna placement)
  • Common IoT connectivity stacks (Wi Fi, BLE, LoRaWAN, cellular)
  • Experience installing and commissioning real systems in the field, not just lab prototypes
  • Comfort working with low voltage wiring, sensors, gateways, and edge devices
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings and basic schematics
  • Familiarity with MQTT and cloud IoT platforms (AWS IoT, Azure IoT, or equivalent) is a plus
  • Strong troubleshooting mindset with clear documentation and reporting habits

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in industrial sites with safety procedures and permit to work processes
  • Experience with building automation or smart home systems (gateways, relays, thermostats, energy monitoring)
  • Experience with protocol integrations: Modbus, BACnet, OPC UA
  • Scripting and tooling experience (Python, Bash) for deployment automation and diagnostics
  • Certifications (nice to have):
  • Networking: CompTIA Network+ or similar
  • Safety: basic site safety certification
  • Vendor certifications for specific gateways or platforms

Tools and Equipment You Should Be Comfortable Using

  • Laptop based commissioning tools and console access
  • Network diagnostics tools (ping, traceroute, Wireshark basics)
  • RF and coverage checks using practical field methods
  • Multimeter and basic electrical test tools
  • Labeling and documentation discipline for professional installs
