Provides professional leadership and supervises nursing staff throughout the shift.
Acts as a role model, mentor, and resource for clinical and administrative guidance.
Ensures safe staffing levels and appropriate patient‑to‑nurse ratios based on acuity.
Supports staff in clinical decision‑making, conflict resolution, and prioritization of workload.
Provides constructive feedback, coaching, and performance support to the team.
Leads the unit in the absence of the Nurse Manager, ensuring continuity of operations.
Practices within regulatory scope and adheres to DOH and organizational policies.
Supports competency development and education for junior staff and new hires.
Maintains mandatory and medical‑unit–specific competencies.
Participates in clinical audits, research, and evidence‑based initiatives.
Demonstrates ongoing development in leadership and medical-unit management.

Responsibilities:

Oversees patient assessments, care planning, implementation, and evaluation on a medical unit.
Ensures accurate and timely documentation in compliance with organizational policies.
Supports evidence‑based practice in the management of chronic and acute medical conditions.
Monitors patient progress and identifies changes in condition promptly, ensuring escalation when needed.
Ensures proper medication administration, monitoring of high‑alert drugs, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Coordinates patient admissions, discharges, transfers, and overall flow within the medical ward.
Supports safe management of patients with complex medical needs, including comorbidities, chronic illness, and long‑term treatments.
Ensures readiness of equipment and resources required for medical care delivery.

Qualifications:

Bachelor Degree in Nursing; or
Associate degree in Nursing from Canada or USA with minimum two (2) years course duration and Successful completion of the National exam:
✓ USA: NCLEX - RN
✓ Canada: Licensing Exam
DOH License or Eligibility
