Role Purpose
The Linux Administrator is responsible for managing and securing enterprise Linux environments, ensuring systems are patched, hardened, and compliant with industry standards such as CIS Benchmarks and DISA STIGs.
The role focuses on OS-level patching, kernel hardening, SELinux enforcement, and automation of patch orchestration, ensuring minimal downtime across large-scale, business-critical environments. This position plays a key role in maintaining system stability, security, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
OS Patch Management & Compliance Execute OS-level security patching across Linux environments (RHEL, Cent OS, etc.) Align patching processes with:CIS Benchmarks DISA STIG standards Ensure timely identification and remediation of vulnerabilities Monitor patch compliance and generate reports for audits and governance System Hardening & Security Perform kernel-level hardening to enhance system security Configure and enforce SELinux policies across environments Implement secure configurations in line with enterprise security standards Identify and remediate system misconfigurations and vulnerabilities Patch Automation & Orchestration Design and manage automated patching workflows using:Ansible Red Hat Satellite (or equivalent tools) Develop playbooks and automation scripts for:Patch deployment Configuration management Routine maintenance tasks Ensure scalability and repeatability of patching processes System Availability & Maintenance Minimize downtime during patching and updates through:Careful planning and scheduling Use of rolling updates and high-availability strategies Perform system monitoring and proactive maintenance Support troubleshooting for patch-related or system performance issues Infrastructure Operations & Support Maintain and administer Linux-based servers in enterprise environments Support production environments with a focus on:Stability Performance Security Work closely with:Infrastructure teams Security teams Application owners Compliance, Documentation & Audit Ensure systems comply with:Internal IT/security policies Regulatory requirements (banking/enterprise) Maintain documentation of:Patch status System configurations Automation scripts and processes Support audits and compliance assessments
Qualifications & Experience
Education
Bachelor’s degree in:Information Technology Computer Science Systems Engineering or related field
Experience
5–8 years of experience in:Linux system administration Enterprise infrastructure environments Strong hands-on experience with:OS patching and system hardening Large-scale production environments Experience in regulated industries (e.g., banking) is preferred
Technical Skills
Strong expertise in:Linux OS (RHEL, Cent OS, Oracle Linux, etc.) System hardening and security best practices Experience with:SELinux configuration and troubleshooting Kernel tuning and hardening techniques Configuration management tools (Ansible, Satellite) Familiarity with:CIS Benchmarks and DISA STIG frameworks Monitoring and logging tools Proficiency in:Shell scripting (Bash) and automation
Certifications (Preferred / Required)
Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) Linux Foundation Certified System Administrator (LFCS)
