Responsibilities:

Enterprise Integration Architecture


  • Defines and maintains the enterprise clinical integration architecture, standards, design principles, interface patterns, and technology roadmap in alignment with organizational strategy and enterprise architecture.
  • Designs scalable and reusable integration solutions connecting the Electronic Medical Record, clinical applications, ancillary systems, imaging platforms, medical devices, financial systems, patient portals, mobile applications, and external healthcare networks.
  • Evaluates integration requirements and recommend appropriate technologies, standards, and architecture patterns based on clinical criticality, security, performance, maintainability, and business continuity needs.
  • Provides technical design authority for major clinical systems implementations, expansions, migrations, upgrades, mergers, and digital transformation initiatives.

Healthcare Interoperability and Standards


  • Leads the design, development, implementation, and optimization of integrations using HL7 v2, FHIR, DICOM, IHE profiles, APIs, web services, messaging technologies, and other healthcare interoperability standards.
  • Ensures consistent implementation of patient identity, encounter, order, result, medication, scheduling, billing, document, and clinical data exchange workflows across enterprise systems.
  • Establishes interface specifications, data mappings, terminology standards, validation rules, error-handling processes, and integration documentation.
  • Supports compliance with DHA, NABIDH, JCI, health information exchange, data privacy, and organizational information governance requirements.

Interface Engine and Integration Platform Management


  • Provides senior technical oversight for enterprise interface engines, API management platforms, integration services, message queues, monitoring tools, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Designs and develops complex interfaces, transformation logic, routing rules, APIs, and integration components while ensuring configuration quality and maintainability.
  • Monitors message processing, interface queues, system connectivity, transaction volumes, error rates, and integration performance to maintain reliable 24/7 data exchange.
  • Leads capacity planning, platform upgrades, performance tuning, patching, certificate management, high availability, and lifecycle planning for integration technologies.

Clinical Integration Delivery


  • Leads integration workstreams for implementation of new clinical applications, medical devices, diagnostic platforms, digital solutions, and external healthcare services.
  • Translates clinical and operational requirements into detailed integration designs, technical specifications, workflow diagrams, data mappings, and implementation plans.
  • Coordinates with vendors, system analysts, clinical teams, and technical resources to ensure integration dependencies, timelines, testing, and production readiness are effectively managed.
  • Ensures integrations are delivered within agreed scope, quality, security, and service expectations while maintaining alignment with patient safety and operational priorities.

Testing, Validation and Change Management


  • Develops and governs integration testing strategies covering unit testing, system integration testing, regression testing, performance testing, failover testing, and user acceptance testing.
  • Validates message content, data accuracy, patient identity, workflow outcomes, error conditions, system acknowledgements, and downstream clinical availability before production deployment.
  • Leads technical review and approval of integration changes through established change-management and release-governance processes.
  • Maintains version control, deployment documentation, interface inventories, test evidence, rollback procedures, and post-implementation validation records.

Patient Identity and Data Integrity


  • Ensures accurate and consistent patient identity, demographic, encounter, provider, location, order, and clinical data exchange across integrated systems.
  • Collaborates with Health Information Management, Clinical Systems, and operational stakeholders to address duplicate records, mismatched identities, data-quality issues, and reconciliation requirements.
  • Defines integration controls that reduce the risk of patient misidentification, missing clinical information, duplicate transactions, and incorrect routing of patient data.
  • Supports master data management, enterprise patient index, terminology management, and data standardization initiatives.

Service Reliability and Incident Management


  • Leads the investigation and resolution of complex integration incidents involving failed messages, delayed results, interface outages, incorrect mappings, duplicate transactions, system connectivity, and data discrepancies.
  • Coordinates incident response with application teams, infrastructure, cybersecurity, vendors, clinical departments, and external entities to minimize disruption to patient care.
  • Establishes monitoring thresholds, automated alerts, escalation procedures, technical runbooks, and service restoration processes for critical interfaces.
  • Participates in on-call support and provide senior technical leadership during major incidents, system downtimes, emergency events, and disaster recovery activities.

Cybersecurity, Privacy and Compliance


  • Designs integrations in accordance with cybersecurity, privacy, access control, encryption, authentication, audit, network segmentation, and secure data-transfer requirements.
  • Collaborates with Information Security to assess integration risks, third-party connectivity, API exposure, vulnerabilities, privileged access, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensures sensitive patient and organizational information is exchanged only through authorized, secured, monitored, and appropriately documented channels.
  • Supports internal audits, accreditation surveys, regulatory inspections, risk assessments, and corrective actions related to healthcare interoperability and clinical information exchange.

Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery


  • Designs resilient integration solutions incorporating redundancy, high availability, fault tolerance, message recovery, transaction replay, and controlled downtime workflows.
  • Develops, tests, and maintains disaster recovery, business continuity, backup, restoration, failover, and recovery procedures for integration platforms and critical interfaces.
  • Coordinate downtime and recovery planning with Clinical Systems, Infrastructure, vendors, and operational departments to preserve essential clinical information flows.
  • Analyzes integration-related business continuity risks and recommend improvements to strengthen enterprise resilience.

Technical Governance and Documentation


  • Establishes and maintains integration governance standards, architectural review processes, naming conventions, coding practices, deployment procedures, and documentation requirements.
  • Maintains the enterprise interface catalogue, architecture diagrams, data-flow maps, system dependencies, technical specifications, support ownership, and lifecycle records.
  • Conducts technical design reviews, code reviews, security reviews, and architecture assessments to ensure solutions are sustainable and aligned with enterprise standards.
  • Mentors integration analysts, interface developers, and technical team members in healthcare interoperability, troubleshooting, architecture, and best practices.

Vendor and Stakeholder Management


  • Acts as the senior technical liaison with clinical application vendors, interface-engine providers, external health information exchanges, consultants, and implementation partners.
  • Reviews vendor integration proposals, statements of work, technical designs, interface capabilities, security requirements, and support arrangements.
  • Contributes to requests for proposal, product evaluations, procurement decisions, contract reviews, licensing forecasts, and technical due diligence.
  • Communicates integration risks, dependencies, progress, and recommendations clearly to technical teams, clinical stakeholders, project governance groups, and senior leadership.

Innovation and Digital Transformation


  • Evaluates emerging interoperability technologies, cloud integration platforms, FHIR services, API ecosystems, event-driven architecture, automation, and artificial intelligence integration requirements.
  • Supports smart hospital initiatives, remote care, mobile health, patient engagement, clinical decision support, medical device integration, and advanced analytics programs.
  • Develops reusable integration services and enterprise APIs that accelerate digital transformation while maintaining security, governance, and patient safety.
  • Monitors developments in international healthcare interoperability standards and recommend strategic adoption where appropriate.

Performance Monitoring and Continuous Improvement


  • Establishes and monitors integration performance indicators covering interface availability, transaction success, error resolution, data quality, incident response, system capacity, and project delivery.
  • Analyzes recurring failures, message volumes, performance trends, service risks, and support demands to identify sustainable improvement opportunities.
  • Prepares technical dashboards, architecture reports, risk summaries, project updates, and recommendations for IT leadership and governance committees.
  • Participates in Clinical Informatics, Enterprise Architecture, Cybersecurity, Data Governance, and digital transformation committees as required.v

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Health Informatics, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Master’s Degree in Health Informatics, Information Systems, Enterprise Architecture, Digital Health, or a related field preferred.
  • Professional certifications in HL7, FHIR, cloud architecture, enterprise architecture, integration platforms, cybersecurity, or project management are preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of HL7 v2, FHIR, DICOM, IHE profiles, REST APIs, SOAP services, JSON, XML, SQL, integration engines, messaging technologies, and healthcare interoperability.
  • Strong understanding of Electronic Medical Records, clinical workflows, patient identity management, laboratory, pharmacy, imaging, billing, scheduling, and ancillary systems.
  • Knowledge of integration architecture, API management, cloud platforms, databases, networking, encryption, authentication, high availability, disaster recovery, and cybersecurity principles.
  • Strong analytical, software development, troubleshooting, architecture, documentation, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to lead complex integration programs, influence technical decisions, and manage competing priorities in a high-availability healthcare environment.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:


  • Minimum of eight (8) years of progressive experience in healthcare integration, clinical systems, software integration, health informatics, or enterprise application architecture.
  • Minimum of three (3) years in a senior integration architect, technical lead, interface architect, or equivalent healthcare technology role.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, developing, and supporting enterprise healthcare interfaces using HL7, FHIR, DICOM, APIs, and interface-engine technologies.
  • Experience integrating Electronic Medical Records with laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, cardiology, medical devices, finance, patient portals, and external health information exchange platforms.
  • Proven experience in integration architecture, technical design, system implementation, data migration, testing, production support, and incident resolution.
  • Experience with Oracle Health/Cerner or another major enterprise Electronic Medical Record platform is highly preferred.
  • Experience supporting DHA, NABIDH, JCI, data privacy, cybersecurity, and healthcare information governance requirements is preferred.
  • Experience within a tertiary, multi-site, or JCI-accredited healthcare organization is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead vendors, technical teams, analysts, and multidisciplinary stakeholders through complex integration initiatives.
