We are seeking an experienced Head of Compliance / Legal Counsel to lead our compliance and legal functions. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the commodities trading and shipping industries, with a deep understanding of the regulatory landscape governing these sectors. This role will be pivotal in shaping our compliance strategy, ensuring adherence to laws and regulations, and mitigating risks associated with our business operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage the company's compliance program, ensuring alignment with industry regulations and best practices.
• Provide legal counsel on a wide range of issues related to commodities trading, shipping, contracts, and regulatory compliance.
• Monitor changes in legislation and regulations affecting the commodities trading and shipping sectors, advising senior management on necessary adjustments to policies and practices.
• Conduct regular compliance audits and assessments to identify potential risks and areas for improvement.
• Lead investigations into compliance breaches or legal issues, coordinating with internal teams and external legal advisors as necessary.
• Develop training programs for employees on compliance policies, legal obligations, and ethical standards.
• Collaborate with various departments to ensure that compliance considerations are integrated into business operations.
• Represent the company in dealings with regulatory authorities and during audits or investigations.
• Foster a culture of compliance within the organization by promoting awareness of legal responsibilities among staff at all levels.

Skills

• Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in compliance or legal roles within the commodities trading or shipping industries.
• Strong knowledge of international regulations governing commodities trading, shipping laws, and environmental regulations.
• Proven ability to navigate complex regulatory environments and provide strategic legal advice.
• Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Professional certifications in compliance (e.g., Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional) are a plus but not required.
