About the Role:
The University of Sharjah’s Libraries, including management, policy development, library collections and facilities by making recommendations, managing day-to-day operations, as well as planning and directing library activities and staff.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Create library workflows and procedures in alignment with the university’s policies and regulations, and the requirements of the UAE Ministry of Higher Education in order to achieve UoS’s vision and mission. Maintain library facilities and equipment by preparing and executing plans for equipment and facilities maintenance and development to maintain good performance. Select and procure library capital equipment, including software and hardware in collaboration with the Information Technology department, to enhance services and library operations. Provide leadership to the library’s team in order to build and develop their organizational capabilities, provide them with development opportunities such as training, coaching, etc., as well as report on their performance. Manage the hiring process for the library department including preparing initial job descriptions, requests to recruit, selection and interview process in order to ensure the best and most suitable candidates are selected for the available vacancies. Maintain professional relationships through communicating and collaborating with other University offices, faculty, students, committees, and the community to meet their needs. Ensure Library collections are organized in a logical, accessible and appropriate manner for ease of access by students and other library visitors. Manage the community patrons visiting the Library by assisting and directing them to find the information or material they require. Ensure Library science is updated by staying current with developments in library science, information literacy, and best practices to best serve the patrons. Lead the development of the Library’s KPIs and be the point of contact between the department and the Office of Strategic Planning in order to report on the department’s progress and prepare the necessary action plans. As well as ensure that each team member has a good understanding of the department’s KPIs and how their roles can impact their achievement.
Job Requirements:
Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to prepare professional documents, in both Arabic and English. Excellent working knowledge of personal computer applications with an emphasis on MS Office applications such as Excel, Word, and Teams. Excellent knowledge of academic library references and research methods, including using electronic information sources, and preparing subject guides, bibliographies, handbooks, and other materials to support the information needs of faculty and students. Advanced ability to support diverse groups of students, faculty, and the community and provide them with a variety of references. Ability to devise research strategies and prepare guides, references, brochures, and other materials to support faculty and student information requests. Ability to implement and use systematic planning and assessment techniques. Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Library Information Systems, Business Administration, or a relevant discipline. Above 15 Years of UAE experience in a leadership position preferably in higher education institutions. A higher qualification (Master’s or Ph. D.) in the Library Sciences is a plus.
