Job Description
AECOM is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Buildings & Places (B&P) Construction Supervision team. This role involves overseeing mechanical engineering aspects of construction projects, ensuring compliance with design specifications, quality standards, and project timelines. The ideal candidate will bring technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and a commitment to delivering excellence in the built environment.
Construction Supervision & Quality Assurance Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and other building services. Independently perform walk-downs and inspections of installed commodities to ensure conformance with specifications and design. Ensure all mechanical works comply with project specifications, codes, standards, and safety regulations. Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress and address technical issues. Technical Leadership Provide technical guidance to project teams, contractors, and stakeholders. Review and approve mechanical design drawings, shop drawings, and material submittals. Display knowledge and abilities to evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to meet basic engineering and construction specifications. May provide technical direction to drafters, technicians, and surveyors. Project Coordination Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including architects, civil engineers, and electrical engineers, to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems. Coordinate with contractors and subcontractors to ensure timely execution of mechanical works. Documentation & Reporting Prepare and maintain detailed site reports, inspection records, and progress updates. Perform quantity surveys for tracking and reporting. Ensure accurate documentation of as-built drawings and project handover deliverables. Compliance & Risk Management Ensure compliance with local building codes, environmental regulations, and health and safety standards. Identify potential risks and implement mitigation strategies to minimize project delays or cost overruns. Professional Judgment Display sound professional judgment on details of work, ensuring engineering solutions align with project goals and standards.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (Master’s degree preferred). Minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with at least 5 years in construction supervision for B&P projects. Proficiency in mechanical design software (e.g., Auto CAD, Revit MEP, BIM tools). Strong understanding of mechanical systems, building codes, and construction methodologies. Knowledge of international standards such as ASHRAE, NFPA, and LEED is a plus. Excellent leadership and team management abilities. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. Effective communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with clients, contractors, and team members.
