Work Arrangement
Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the office three times per week or another frequency dictated by the business.
The Role
The Retail Excellence Intern will support the Retail Excellence team at General Motors on key initiatives that shape future showroom experiences and customer engagement strategies. The role is ideal for psychology students interested in consumer behavior (especially Gen Z), as well as candidates from marketing or computer engineering backgrounds who can contribute through insights, marketing support, or retail tech perspectives. The intern will work closely with cross-functional teams, contribute to innovation projects around electric vehicle showrooms, and help turn customer and behavioral insights into practical retail improvements.
What You’ll Do- Contribute to the enhancement of customer journeys and in-store experiences by providing insights into consumer behavior and Gen Z preferences
- Support retail innovation projects, including next-generation EV-focused showrooms
- Assist in analyzing customer interaction data, identifying trends, and helping develop personalized retail strategies
- Help prepare presentations, research summaries, and internal reports for stakeholder alignment
- Participate in dealer visits to gather on-the-ground insights and observations
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)- Currently enrolled in a bachelor or master's in psychology, Marketing, Computer Engineering, or a related field
- Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities, with interest in consumer behavior and Gen Z trends
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint
- Research and data interpretation capabilities
- Proactive, collaborative, and solution-oriented mindset
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)- Focus or coursework in consumer behavior, user experience, digital/retail marketing, or retail tech
- Familiarity with Power BI, data dashboards, or basic UX principles
- Prior experience (academic or internship) related to retail, customer experience, or data-driven projects
