Job Details

The UAV Mechanical Technician is responsible for the end-to-end mechanical integrity and airworthiness of complex UAV systems. This includes propulsion systems, airframe structures, VTOL mechanisms, and hybrid/electric integration systems. You will play a critical role in ensuring mission readiness, minimizing downtime, and supporting safe UAV operations in coordination with flight operations, engineering, and safety teams. Key Responsibilities1. Maintenance & Repair Operations Perform scheduled, preventive, and corrective maintenance on UAV mechanical and propulsion systems Service and maintain turbine engines, piston/ICE engines, electric motors, hybrid propulsion systems, and VTOL assemblies Conduct overhauls, replacements, and system upgrades as per OEM specifications2. Inspection & Diagnostics Carry out pre-flight, post-flight, and deep system inspections across UAV platforms Identify mechanical wear, structural fatigue, vibration issues, overheating, and system inefficiencies Diagnose faults in propulsion, landing gear, cooling systems, fuel systems, and battery systems3. Assembly & Structural Work Assemble and disassemble UAV airframes, propulsion units, and VTOL transition systems Perform alignment, balancing, and calibration of rotating components such as rotors, propellers, and turbine assemblies Execute composite repairs, structural modifications, and airframe reinforcement tasks4. Propulsion & Systems Expertise Maintain and troubleshoot:Turbine engines ICE/piston engines Electric propulsion units Hybrid powertrain systems Battery management systems (BMS) Fuel delivery and exhaust systems Thermal and vibration control systems5. Documentation & Compliance Record all maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections accurately in compliance with internal procedures and aviation regulations (GCAA standards) Ensure traceability of parts, tools, and maintenance actions Support audit readiness and airworthiness documentation requirements6. Collaboration & Operational Support Work closely with External Pilots, Flight Operations, Engineers, and Safety Compliance teams Support flight tests, system validation, and troubleshooting during live operations Contribute to root-cause analysis of mechanical or propulsion-related failures7. Safety & Standards Follow strict aviation safety protocols and company SOPsHandle hazardous materials (fuels, lithium batteries, composites) safely Ensure compliance with OEM maintenance manuals and aviation authority requirements Required Qualifications Diploma or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Technology, Aircraft Maintenance, or related field FAA / EASA / GCAA certification (preferred) or equivalent aviation maintenance qualification Specialized training in turbine engines, ICE engines, electric propulsion, or hybrid systems Experience Requirements Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience in aircraft, UAV, or aerospace mechanical maintenance Strong experience in propulsion systems (turbine, piston, electric, hybrid) Exposure to VTOL platforms and UAV operational environments strongly preferred Experience in aviation, defense, or commercial UAV industries is an advantage Technical Competencies Deep understanding of mechanical, propulsion, and structural UAV systems Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and OEM manuals Skilled in precision tools, diagnostic equipment, engine test stands, and vibration analysis tools Knowledge of aerodynamics, VTOL systems, and flight mechanics Familiarity with aviation safety, airworthiness standards, and regulatory frameworks Understanding of electrical integration in hybrid/electric UAV systems Behavioral Competencies Strong attention to detail and operational discipline Problem-solving and root-cause analysis mindset Team collaboration across engineering and operations functions Effective communication under operational pressure High integrity, safety awareness, and accountability Time management and ability to work in fast-paced aviation environments Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) UAV fleet availability and operational readiness rate Mean time to repair (MTTR) reduction Reduction in repeat mechanical failures Timely completion of scheduled maintenance tasks Compliance with safety and regulatory standards Accuracy and completeness of maintenance documentation Working Conditions Primary location: Air Q Limited, Masdar City, Abu Dhabi May require deployment across operational sites, airports, or test locations Work schedule may vary depending on operational requirements Full compliance with company policies and aviation safety standards is mandatory Why Join UsWork on cutting-edge UAV and aerospace propulsion technologies Be part of a fast-growing unmanned aviation ecosystem in the UAEExposure to turbine, hybrid, and electric VTOL platforms Opportunity to contribute directly to next-generation flight operations
