Planning engineer role overview
Supporting delivery of buildings, villas, mixed-use developments, and theme park projects across the Middle East, ensuring effective project planning and schedule control in line with contractual requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, update, and monitor project schedules, track progress against baselines, and perform delay analysis in coordination with site teams, contractors, and project controls.
- Prepare reports and forecasts to support decision-making, enabling timely identification of risks and ensuring successful project delivery within defined time and cost objectives.
- Manage and review contractor schedules for project compliance requirements.
- Engage with contractors to develop delivery, recovery, and mitigation plans.
- Develop detailed schedules with resource and cost loading at the activity level.
- Develop and maintain detailed deliverable lists for each design project in coordination with project and engineering managers.
- Implement a deliverable-based progress measurement model and coordinate with leads to maintain periodic updates.
- Utilize earned value management techniques to evaluate schedule and cost performance metrics.
- Maintain weekly updates of earned value analysis dashboard at the project and sector level.
- Construction support: review, check, and evaluate contractors’ schedule of works. Monitor work progress, compare to the accepted program of work, and report to the project manager.
- Prepare weekly and/or monthly progress reports covering the status of construction projects.
- Proposal support: develop schedules in support of proposals for new pursuits.
- Attend meetings internally and externally to discuss and present schedule and progress related matters.
- Ensure compliance with relevant quality, environmental, safety, and occupational health policies, manuals, and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the line manager or supervisor.
Qualifications and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction, or related field.
- Minimum 10 to 15 years of experience in planning and scheduling, utilizing Primavera Project Management P6.
- Experience working on GCC projects.
- Proven experience in utilization of earned value management in performance analysis and reporting.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken, with effective communication skills.
- Excellent skills in MS Office applications, especially Excel, including the ability to create and maintain complex spreadsheets.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Good communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working internationally, with preference for GCC experience.
