Job Details

The Senior Technical Engineer (Fit-out Factory / Joinery) serves as the lead hands-on subject matter expert in translating complex interior architectural designs into precise, machine-ready production data. Reporting directly to the Technical Manager, this role focuses on detailed construction engineering, production drawings, material take-offs, and resolving complex fabrication challenges. Unlike a managerial role focused on team strategy and high-level client coordination, the Senior Technical Engineer drives the execution phase—producing advanced shop drawings, generating precise cutting lists, and directly guiding draftsmen and CNC operators on shop floor manufacturing techniques.

Key Responsibilities

  • Detail Engineering & Production Drawings

    • Develop complex, fully detailed shop drawings and assembly details for custom joinery, loose furniture, wall paneling, and bespoke architectural features.

    • Prepare production-level Bills of Materials (BOM), hardware callouts, and detailed cutting lists for direct millwork extraction.

    • Convert approved interior design drawings into CAD/CAM and CNC-compatible vector files or 3D models.

  • Design Coordination & Clash Detection

    • Review consultant drawings (architectural, structural, MEP) to identify constructability issues, physical clashes, and tolerance gaps before fabrication begins.

    • Conduct site survey evaluations and cross-check site dimensions against production drawings to ensure precise fitment upon delivery.

    • Draft technical Requests for Information (RFIs) and material submittals with recommended engineering solutions.

  • Factory Support & Value Engineering

    • Propose value-engineering solutions to optimize raw material yields (MDF, plywood, solid woods, veneers) and shorten machine cycle times.

    • Partner with production supervisors, carpenters, and CNC programmers to troubleshoot prototyping and assembly problems on the factory floor.

    • Oversee technical quality checks on mock-ups and initial prototype builds before client presentation.

  • Technical Guidance

    • Mentor junior draftsmen and detailers on joinery standards, veneer matching, ironmongery integration, and drafting efficiency.
