Position Overview
The Rolling Stock Engineer is a key member of the Fleet Maintenance department for passenger train services. Reporting to the Fleet Performance Manager, this role is responsible for ensuring the optimal performance, safety, and reliability of rolling stock assets, including locomotives and carriages. With a minimum of 5 years of experience, the Rolling Stock Engineer plays a vital role in the maintenance, improvement, and continuous enhancement of rolling stock operations.
Roles and Responsibility
- Monitor, control and analyze rolling stock sub-contractors’ performance data to assess reliability, safety, and efficiency.
- Identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for performance improvement.
- Collaborate with maintenance contractor to plan and execute maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and safety standards.
- Monitor maintenance schedules and implement adjustments as necessary to minimize downtime.
- Ensure rolling stock operations adhere to safety regulations and industry standards.
- Implement safety improvement initiatives and participate in safety audits and inspections.
- Manage rolling stock assets, including maintenance, lifecycle planning, and asset optimization.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in rolling stock engineering, providing guidance and support to maintenance contractor.
- Conduct technical assessments and recommend improvements.
- Identify areas for process enhancement, cost reduction, and operational efficiency.
- Implement best practices to optimize rolling stock performance.
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience
Academic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or diploma in engineering (mechanical, electrical, electronic, or similar)
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in rolling stock engineering and maintenance within the railway industry.
- Strong knowledge of rolling stock maintenance practices, safety regulations, and industry standards.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of asset management principles is a plus.
