Organization Unit Purpose


Emirates NBD Islamic is Emirates NBD's strategic Islamic banking window, established following approval by Internal Shariah Supervisory Board (ISSC) to offer a full range of Islamic & ethical banking products to tap a sizeable potential segment of Wholesale Banking clients & build significant shareholder value. The unit operates as a Product unit providing expertise to ENBD presence globally and reports to the Group Head Wholesale Banking (GHWB).Product support to Retail Banking to be provided based on Management directive. Emirates NBD ISLAMIC follows a robust Shariah governance mechanism to ensure that all our products and services are duly accredited and in line with Shariah principles.


Job Purpose


The job holder is primarily responsible for:


  •  Client & Product Development: Strategically develop and manage client and product propositions, ensuring alignment with business objectives and market needs.
  • Stakeholder Management: Act as the central product owner, managing relationships with internal stakeholders across various departments and ensuring seamless integration and support for Islamic banking solutions.
  • Product Structuring: Lead the structuring of Islamic products and facilities, providing specialized support to relationship managers and other business units to enhance client offerings and drive sales.
  • Sukuk and Syndications Structuring: Provide the specialized support to EMCAP and FIG team when required on transactions, ensuring technical expertise on matters of transactions, and optimizing the efforts of the Islamic window team.
  • Coverage Management: Oversee and manage the coverage inquiries, providing guidance on Islamic financing, and technical support to ensure high turnaround times and effective delivery of Islamic banking solutions.
  • Risk & Compliance Management: Develop and implement comprehensive product programs, systems, processes, and controls to effectively balance risk and reward while maintaining the highest standards of Shariah compliance and ethical banking practices.
  • Portfolio Management: Oversee the asset and liability portfolios, conducting in-depth analysis, monitoring competition, and identifying growth opportunities through targeted segmentation and campaigns.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Contribute to and participate in cross-functional projects, collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders to deliver high-impact results.
  • Continuous Improvement: Support the ongoing review and enhancement of Islamic products, ensuring they remain competitive, compliant, and aligned with the bank's strategic goals.
  • Support the Head of Islamic Window as needed.

Job Content


Islamic Product Sales


  • Manage all inquiries by RM’s within the bank regarding Islamic products.
  • Guide on technical knowledge of Islamic products and represent the Islamic window in client meetings.
  • Introduce new to bank clients especially on the WB segment with Islamic exposure.
  • Ensure all transactions to be done on time and no delay within different business units.

Develop comprehensive Product Programs, effective systems, processes & controls to balance the risk reward equation.


  • Preparation and ongoing maintenance of detailed & exhaustive product documents for end to end coverage of parameters, policies & procedures 
  • Streamlining of existing manual processes through with external operational support and automation
  • Execution of controls & self-assessment methodologies for early warnings & mitigation of risks
  • Thorough testing of all new systems & changes 
  • Training & support to all relevant process members 
  • Maintain & utilize process monitoring tools for ongoing & new projects.

Contribute & participate in projects and deliverables with internal support & business units as well as external parties to deliver results


  • Liaise with Legal, Risk, Compliance, Finance, IT, Retail & GOPS for launch & maintenance support of Emirates NBD Islamic.
  • Coordinate with other external vendors and agencies etc. as required for activities related to marketing, system development, strategic alliances, regulatory compliance, and development of standard and non-standard documentation.
  • Leverage Emirates NBD’s extensive distribution channel by providing alternative solutions.

Achieving highest standards of Shariah compliance & ethical banking practices


  • Ensure compliance to Shariah principles advised by ISSC.
  • Follow the principles in spirit & practice
  • Proactively work with the ISCD when developing and enhancing products.

Manage the asset / liability portfolios in line with the plans & strategy with portfolio analysis, competition scans and growth opportunities through segmentation & campaigns. 


  • Execution of business strategy, goals & tasks as per budgets & plans.
  • Market research and identification of client needs & gaps in existing proposition
  • Successful launch of innovative new Shariah Compliant products to the market.
  • Streamline and enhance existing product line.
  • Review market feedback and competitor analysis in the formulation of new or enhancing existing products. 
  • Build, enhance, maintain and deepen relationships with existing customers of the Islamic window.

Education


  • Master’s Degree – Finance, Islamic Finance, Economics, or related banking studies 
  • Sufficient working knowledge in financial analysis and accounting, systems, Islamic Products and documentation.

Experiences


Minimum 7 years banking experience, 4 of which in related areas &/or in Islamic Banking environment.


Knowledge 


  • Consumer & Wholesale Banking Products & UAE industry 
  • Sound knowledge about Islamic Banking Operation, accounting, and Islamic Shariah Principles
  • Product structuring expertise and ability to develop Islamic financial products.
  • Understanding of market trends and competition in the Islamic finance industry to drive product development strategies
