Job Details

The Specialist Anaesthesiologist is responsible for providing safe, evidence-based anaesthetic care to patients undergoing surgical, diagnostic, therapeutic, and obstetric procedures. The role includes comprehensive pre-operative assessment, administration of anaesthesia, intra-operative monitoring, post-operative pain management, emergency airway management, and participation in intensive care and resuscitation services while ensuring compliance with DHA regulations and international patient safety standards.
Key Responsibilities Clinical Responsibilities Perform comprehensive pre-anaesthetic evaluations, including medical history, physical examination, and risk assessment. Develop individualized anaesthesia plans based on patient condition and surgical requirements. Administer general, regional, local, and monitored anaesthesia care (MAC) safely and effectively. Monitor patients continuously during procedures and manage physiological parameters. Ensure safe induction, maintenance, and emergence from anaesthesia. Manage difficult airways and provide advanced airway support when required. Deliver perioperative pain management using multimodal analgesia techniques. Assess patients post-operatively and manage anaesthesia-related complications. Provide anaesthesia services for elective, emergency, obstetric, paediatric, and day-care surgeries. Participate in procedural sedation for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures according to hospital policies. Assist in the management of critically ill patients in ICU and emergency situations when required. Respond promptly to medical emergencies, trauma activations, and cardiac arrest calls. Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation within the electronic medical record system.
Quality & Patient Safety Adhere to DHA regulations, hospital policies, infection prevention protocols, and international patient safety standards. Ensure compliance with the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist. Participate in morbidity and mortality meetings, clinical audits, and quality improvement initiatives. Report adverse events, near misses, and medication errors according to hospital policy. Promote safe medication practices and controlled drug management.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration Work closely with surgeons, physicians, nursing staff, ICU teams, and allied healthcare professionals. Provide perioperative consultation and clinical advice regarding anaesthetic management. Participate in multidisciplinary team discussions for complex cases.
Teaching & Professional Development Supervise and mentor junior doctors, residents, interns, and nursing staff. Participate in Continuing Medical Education (CME), departmental meetings, and clinical research. Maintain professional competency through ongoing education and evidence-based practice.
Administrative Responsibilities Participate in departmental on-call and emergency duty rosters. Ensure appropriate utilization and maintenance of anaesthesia equipment. Assist in protocol development and implementation. Maintain confidentiality and comply with ethical and legal standards.
Qualifications MBBS or equivalent medical degree recognized by DHA. MD, MS, DNB, or equivalent postgraduate qualification in Anaesthesiology from a recognized institution. Completion of an accredited residency training program in Anaesthesiology.
Licensure Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification. Additional certifications such as PALS are desirable for hospitals providing paediatric services.
Experience Minimum 3–5 years of post-specialization clinical experience in a recognized hospital. Experience in tertiary care, trauma, obstetric, paediatric, cardiac, or neuro-anaesthesia is an advantage. Experience in ICU and emergency anaesthesia is preferred.
Knowledge & Skills Expertise in general, regional, and local anaesthesia techniques. Advanced airway management and difficult airway skills. Competency in ultrasound-guided regional nerve blocks. Knowledge of perioperative medicine and acute pain management. Familiarity with ventilator management and haemodynamic monitoring. Excellent clinical judgment and decision-making abilities. Strong communication, teamwork, and leadership skills. Proficiency in electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
