Microbiology technicians record detailed observations and test results accurately. They maintain meticulous records of experiments and contribute to data analysis under the guidance of senior microbiologists.
Provide support to microbiologists and researchers by assisting in experimental procedures, literature reviews, and data interpretation. They may also contribute to ongoing research projects by conducting experiments and analysing results.
Participate in quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results. This involves following standardized protocols, calibrating equipment, and maintaining laboratory hygiene and safety standards.
Performs other related duties as may be assigned either in support of division goal or for his/her personal or professional training, education or development as programmed by laboratory manager.

Desired Candidate Profile
Proficiency in basic laboratory techniques such as aseptic technique, pipetting, sample preparation, microscopy, and sterile technique is essential. Technicians should be adept at handling laboratory equipment and following standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Must understand good aseptic techniques, workplace health, safety and environmental responsibilities.
Carrying out standard microbiological analysis by culture methods such as most probable number (MPN)
Experience in use of molecular microbiology methods (MM) such as DNA extraction / purification, PCR and qPCR and other techniques is an advantage.
Preparing microbiological cultures and growth media, and also chemical samples and test solutions using general chemical laboratory techniques such as; use of micropipettes, 4 figure balances, dilution methods and calculation of solution concentrations
Preparation, maintenance, and operation of a variety of laboratory equipment including wet chemistry meters, autoclaves, incubators, centrifuges and others.
Preparation of samples for examination including microscopy and photography of samples and some chemical analysis techniques
Safe handling and use of hazardous and non-hazardous bottled gases including hydrogen sulfide.
Maintaining accurate records of analysis, observations, and calculations. Compile and complete laboratory test sheets and analysis reports.
Perform duties in compliance at all times with corporate and local systems, rules and procedures, including any Quality Assurance, Risk Assessments, Health Safety and Environmental Standards (for example, UKAS ISO 17025, ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001) set by the Company and/or external certification authorities.
Actively participate and follow company’s HSE, Compliance, Quality Assurance and other business control requirements (Compliance & Code of Ethics) which are mandatory or voluntary.
Apply discretionary effort in support of the smooth running of projects and the laboratories.
On the job training will be provided but some experience with microbiology and general laboratory practices would be an advantage
Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Knowledge:
Diploma or Degree program in Microbiology, Biochemistry or Similar Biomedical Science as a minimum.
Knowledge in oilfield microbiology and/or molecular microbiology will be an advantage.
Should have completed their studies (i.e. currently not enrolled in fulltime studies)
Experience: min 1 year experience in laboratory environment.
Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner and ensure full compliance with the Company Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality Systems.
