Innovation Manager

Job Purpose:

The jobholder will be responsible for building productive relationships with local and global innovation partners aimed towards the development of the Dubai Health innovation strategy, with a clear focus on delivering high quality technical support and commercial insight to maximize outcomes. The jobholder will also act as a point of contact internally for advice and support in technology transfer matters and will liaise outwardly with key stakeholders across the innovation ecosystem to support the growth of the Innovation Center.


Strategic Responsibilities:

  • Provides strategic support to the Innovation Center by translating strategic objectives into sectional objectives and employee targets and monitor progress periodically to ensure that they are being completed.
  • Develop strategically important research and innovation relationships with key stakeholders from the private sector both regionally and internationally as well as engage with stakeholders from the healthcare sector.
  • Assist in formulation of an operating plan for research and innovation activities that deliver long-term sustainability.
  • Contributes to the preparation of the annual budget for the Department and provides adequate justifications required to obtain the necessary approvals.


Core Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the establishment and development of technology transfer support across Dubai Health by establishing processes, policies and programs and effectively managing innovation and commercialization across Dubai Health.
  2. Develop and lead a range of programs to develop awareness of and engagement in innovation and entrepreneurship internally across Dubai Health as well as develop and manage relationships with key innovation partners in the local ecosystem to deliver benefits for Dubai Health and the region at a broader level.
  3. Provide market insight and commercialization plans as well as technical support across IP and legal areas to Dubai Health staff and students seeking to develop commercial partnerships and ventures.
  4. To identify sources of external income and investment to support the Dubai Health Innovation Platform, from local and global sources from private sector partners, grant for R&D funders and venture capital firms.
  5. To contribute to the strategic priorities of the Dubai Health Innovation Platform, particularly in relation to commercial development and IP objectives, and present regular progress against KPIs.
  6. To act as a point of contact for Dubai Health staff and students, and for relevant external partners, with broad queries relating to innovation, giving appropriate support and advice.


Developmental Responsibilities:

  1. Sets performance objectives for the team while ensuring that the operational plan of the department will be achieved
  2. Leads, manages, evaluates performance, and motivates the employees of the section while ensuring that the overall objectives of the Department are met
  3. Monitors the use of the Department’s resources and finding ways to utilize resources effectively
  4. Conducts knowledge sharing sessions to transfer work related knowledge and skills acquired in the functional area
  5. Ensures that all new employees in the section are thoroughly inducted into the responsibilities by implementing the onboarding program


Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (business, law, engineering, life sciences)
  • Relevant postgraduate or professional qualification (desirable)


Experience:

  • At least five years’ recent and relevant experience in a commercial, innovation or IP-related environment.
  • Proven experience in negotiating and drafting commercial licensing agreements and legal documents.
  • Experience of working in a dynamic environment, with evidence of formulating clear innovation management, licensing and IP strategies.
  • Conducting market analysis and developing business plans.
  • Knowledge and understanding of innovation processes, and relationship building with key innovation stakeholders (e.g. academia, private sector, funding organizations, investors, science parks).
