Key Objectives

The Senior GIS Engineer is responsible for leading geospatial data management, GIS analysis, mapping, and spatial decision‑support across multidisciplinary engineering and field operations. This role ensures that GIS datasets, workflows, and systems are accurate, compliant, and optimized to support project planning, construction, environmental management, land activities, and asset integrity.

Key Responsibilities

1. GIS Data Management & Governance

• Lead the collection, validation, and management of spatial datasets including pipelines, well pads, facilities, land boundaries, utilities, and environmental layers.
• Maintain enterprise geodatabases, version control, metadata standards, and data integrity.
• Ensure GIS datasets comply with project standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.

2. GIS Analysis & Spatial Modelling

• Execute advanced spatial analysis (buffering, network analysis, terrain modeling, proximity analysis).
• Support engineering and construction teams with route selection, corridor analysis, site suitability studies, and environmental constraint mapping.
• Perform topographic, cadastral, and land-use analysis to support planning and permitting.

3. Mapping & Visualization

• Produce high‑quality maps, plans, dashboards, and web‑GIS visualizations for engineering, construction, and management teams.
• Develop thematic maps and custom map products for field operations, environmental teams, HSE, asset management, and logistics.
• Build and maintain interactive dashboards using ArcGIS Dashboard, ArcGIS Experience Builder, or Power BI (geo-integrated).

4. System Integration & Technology

• Integrate GIS with engineering tools (AutoCAD, MicroStation), asset management systems, SCADA, CMMS, and survey systems.
• Work with GPS, drones/UAV data, satellite imagery, LiDAR datasets, and remote sensing workflows.
• Manage web GIS platforms (ArcGIS Enterprise/Portal, ArcGIS Online, QGIS Server).

5. Support to Engineering & Construction

• Provide GIS support for pipeline routing, road and utility planning, construction work fronts, and area development plans.
• Deliver GIS inputs for design reviews, FEED, detailed engineering, and construction planning.
• Assist construction and field teams with spatial data for site access, plot plans, excavation planning, and material laydown areas.

6. QA/QC & Compliance

• Implement QA/QC on spatial data, ensuring accuracy of coordinates, attributes, projections, and geometry.
• Maintain compliance with survey standards, coordinate reference systems, geodetic frameworks, and project spatial standards.
• Review third‑party GIS datasets, ensuring alignment with client standards.

7. Stakeholder Coordination

• Liaise with engineering, pipeline, civil, environmental, HSE, and construction teams to understand GIS needs.
• Coordinate with survey contractors, government bodies, and land authorities.
• Lead workshops, provide training, and support junior GIS engineers/technicians.

8. Reporting & Documentation

• Prepare GIS reports, analytics summaries, map books, and spatial documentation for project delivery.
• Maintain documentation of workflows, geodatabases, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Support management with decision‑making through GIS-driven insights.

Expected:

• Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geomatics, Geography, Survey Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field.

Professional Experience

• 10+ years of experience in GIS engineering within oil & gas, EPC, utilities, transportation, or infrastructure.
• Strong experience with ArcGIS (Desktop, Pro, Enterprise), QGIS, AutoCAD integration, and geospatial analysis tools.
• Experience working on large-scale field development, pipelines, or infrastructure projects is highly desirable.

Technical Skills

• Proficiency in: 
  • ArcGIS Pro / ArcGIS Desktop
  • ArcGIS Portal / Enterprise
  • QGIS & open‑source tools
  • AutoCAD & engineering drawing integration
  • Spatial databases (PostGIS, SQL Server, SDE)
  • GPS, total station, drone/UAV data processing
  • Remote sensing (imagery classification, raster processing)
• Strong understanding of projections (UTM, WGS84), geodetic systems, and coordinate transformations.
