Job Title: Accountant
Location : Dubai
Job Description
This role covers end-to-end accounting activities including general ledger accounting, month-end close support, distributor claims validation and accruals management, reconciliations, and audit support. The Accountant will work closely with cross-functional stakeholders (commercial, supply chain, shared services, and external partners) and will be expected to independently manage complex processes, improve existing controls, and ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
The role also includes supporting and training offshore team members while maintaining strong integration with the local finance team.
Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Close
Prepare and post journal entries and reconcile general ledger accounts on a timely basis.
Assist in month-end close activities, including preparation of schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
Reconcile accounts payable and accounts receivable balances and investigate variances.
Distributor Claims Management (Key Responsibility)
Take full ownership of the distributor claims validation process within a complex business model.
Review, validate, and assess incoming distributor claims for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with contractual and accounting requirements.
Apply sound accounting and reporting principles to determine and book appropriate accruals.
Continuously monitor claims versus accruals, investigate variances, and ensure timely true-ups.
Act as the primary point of accountability for all distributor claims, providing clear and timely updates to both finance and the wider business.
Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and external distributors, taking initiative to resolve issues based on information obtained.
Identify weaknesses in the current claims process and proactively drive improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and control.
Controls, Compliance & Audit
Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and internal control requirements in daily operations.
Provide audit support by gathering documentation and supporting GICFR testing.
Contribute to the preparation of schedules and documentation for internal and external audits.
Payments & Reporting Support
Review statements of account (SOAs) and validate payment runs for accuracy and completeness prior to release.
Collaborate with other departments to obtain data required for financial reporting and analysis.
Process Improvement & Collaboration
Proactively identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and ways of working, and support implementation of enhancements.
Work effectively with offshore/shared service teams, including providing guidance, training, and oversight where required.
Integrate seamlessly into the local finance team, contributing to a collaborative and high-performing environment.
Actively seek clarification and guidance when needed, demonstrating ownership and accountability for outcomes.
Development
Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or related field.
Professional accounting qualification such as ACCA, ACA, CPA, or equivalent is preferred.
Solid understanding of accounting and financial reporting principles (IFRS knowledge strongly preferred).
3–6 years of relevant accounting experience in a corporate, multinational, or audit environment.
Experience dealing with distributor, rebate, claims, or accrual-based business models is highly desirable.
Hands-on experience with general ledger accounting, journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
Proven experience managing complex accounting processes end-to-end, with a high level of ownership and accountability.
Demonstrated ability to identify process gaps, propose improvements, and support implementation of more efficient and controlled ways of working.
Experience working cross-functionally and communicating effectively with finance and non-finance stakeholders.
