Job Details

Canadian University Dubai (CUD) is seeking an exceptional Assistant Professor in Power and Renewable Energy Engineering to join the Department of Electrical Engineering within the School of Engineering, Applied Science, and Technology (SEAST). This is a full time, in campus appointment. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery, development, and continuous enhancement of CUD’s Power and Renewable Energy Engineering program through high quality teaching, curriculum development, student supervision, and applied research aligned with sustainable energy systems, power engineering, and the UAE’s clean energy and sustainability agenda.


Qualifications


Applicants must hold a PhD in Power Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline. A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, Energy Engineering, or a related field is required.


Experience Requirements


Assistant Professor, teaching experience in power systems, renewable energy, power electronics, or related areas, with evidence of curriculum development and undergraduate capstone or graduation project supervision.


Teaching Areas


Teaching will span core thematic areas in Power and Renewable Energy Engineering, including:


  • Power systems analysis and operation, including generation, transmission, distribution, and protection;
  • Renewable energy technologies, including solar, wind, and hybrid systems;
  • Power electronics for energy conversion, including converters, inverters, and grid connected interfaces;
  • Smart grids and grid integration, including monitoring, control, and power quality;
  • Energy storage and energy efficiency, supporting sustainable power system design and operation; and
  • Laboratory and applied learning, using contemporary measurement, simulation, and analysis tools.

Research Focus


Successful candidates will develop an applied research profile that advances power and renewable energy engineering while supporting national and regional priorities, including the UAE Energy Strategy 2050 and Net Zero 2050. Research may include themes such as renewable integration and grid stability, smart grids and digitalisation of power networks, power electronics for clean energy systems, energy storage and energy management, energy efficiency and demand side solutions, and industry linked applied research that delivers measurable impact.


Key Responsibilities


  • Serve as a subject matter expert supporting the Electrical Engineering Department in program delivery, operational needs, and curriculum alignment with CUD standards, industry needs, and developments in the field.
  • Teach undergraduate courses in power systems, renewable energy, and related areas, ensuring engaging delivery, updated syllabi, and timely assessment and feedback.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, course coordination, and continuous program improvement, including outcome based education and assessment practices.
  • Develop and conduct laboratory based and practice oriented learning activities that strengthen student competence and employability.
  • Supervise undergraduate capstone projects and student research activities, providing mentoring and academic guidance that supports student success.
  • Engage in applied research and scholarly activities, pursuing publications, funded projects, and collaborative opportunities aligned with power and renewable energy systems.
  • Contribute to accreditation readiness, quality assurance, and assessment processes, including documentation, mapping, and evidence based improvement.
  • Participate in departmental committees, academic governance, and service activities, contributing to a collegial and high performing academic environment.
  • Foster industry engagement through guest lectures, applied projects, partnerships, and external collaboration that enhance program relevance.
  • Support student mentoring, advising, and career development initiatives, including outreach, recruitment support, and community engagement as needed.
