Position Overview
Data Center Prime (DCP) is seeking a Data Center Design Engineer with expertise in Mechanical and/or Electrical (M&E) systems to lead the development of resilient data center infrastructure. The successful candidate will translate strategic objectives into fully engineered, construction-ready design packages that align with international standards.
Core Responsibilities
Strategic Design and Conceptualization
• Develop foundational Basis of Design (BoD) documents that formally outline project technical goals, capacity requirements, and redundancy levels.
• Define high-level architecture for power and cooling distribution systems.
• Map redundant electrical and mechanical paths to achieve Concurrent Maintainability.
• Perform engineering calculations to size major equipment, including Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems, switchgear, and chillers.
• Produce preliminary and detailed drawing sets, including General Arrangements (GA), Single-Line Diagrams (SLDs), and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
• Utilize BIM tools for 3D modeling at various levels of detail to represent design concepts and ensure inter-disciplinary coordination.
• Act as a technical liaison for certification processes with organizations such as the Uptime Institute or IDCA.
Detailed Engineering and Specification
• Create comprehensive For-Construction Drawings for all engineering disciplines, including architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical systems.
• Design detailed power distribution plans, HVAC layouts, and fire detection and suppression systems.
• Document rigorous engineering calculations for heat load analysis, power flow, fault levels, and hydraulic modeling.
• Prepare detailed performance and material specifications for all infrastructure equipment.
• Develop a detailed Bill of Quantities (BoQ) to facilitate accurate cost management.
• Conduct internal peer reviews and coordination checks to ensure clash-free and integrated designs.
Operational Readiness and Documentation
• Develop Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Manuals outlining routine checks and preventative maintenance schedules.
• Author Emergency Response Manuals detailing procedures for responding to critical incidents such as power or cooling failures.
• Prepare technical data sheets to serve as definitive references for all major infrastructure systems.
• Create comprehensive Installation & Deployment Guidelines, including site preparation requirements and system interconnection instructions.
• Formulate Commissioning Checklists for system verification and testing before facility activation.
Required Technical Qualifications
• Standard Compliance: Deep understanding of Uptime Institute Tier III performance and topology principles.
• System Design: Expertise in designing redundant capacity components and distribution paths for critical environments.
• BIM Proficiency: Advanced capability in producing models and documentation in native formats such as RVT, DWG, and IFC.
• Engineering Analysis: Proven ability to perform complex mechanical and electrical system calculations.
• Regional Context: Familiarity with the data center market and technical requirements in the GCC and MENA regions.
