Job Overview
The Field Engineer IV is responsible for the design, planning, execution, and technical support of Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) operations, including post-drilling analysis for basic to intermediate wells and projects at a country or regional level. The role works closely with subsurface teams, well systems, and regulatory bodies to develop safe and efficient drilling solutions, operating under the supervision of the Engineering Manager and senior Project Engineers.
Responsibilities
- Provide onsite and office-based engineering support for MPD operations
- Design, plan, and support MPD projects from preparation through execution and post-well analysis
- Independently rig up, operate, monitor, and troubleshoot MPD equipment while ensuring HSE and documentation compliance
- Manage MPD operations independently when required and oversee crew activities during shifts
- Train, mentor, and supervise crew members and junior engineers
- Lead equipment green tagging, in-casing tests, audits, and documented MPD procedures
- Manage all aspects of MPD project preparation, technical proposals, and execution support
- Support and coordinate with Project Engineers on MPD planning and operational tasks
- Participate in and support HAZID, HAZOP, DWOP, and well planning meetings
- Track lessons learned and apply continuous improvement to future operations
- Prepare and optimize operating procedures, flow diagrams, and P&IDs
- Monitor regional MPD jobs in real time and optimize performance through calculations and engineering recommendations
- Operate and manage single-phase and multiphase hydraulic simulators to support well balancing and drilling calculations
- Conduct rig visits and prepare inspection reports, flow processes, and P&IDs
- Prepare and deliver technical presentations, engineering studies, and end-of-well reports
- Maintain continuous communication with clients, providing operational updates and performance results
- Provide specialized onsite engineering support for MPD equipment and processes
- Coordinate MPD field projects and ensure adherence to Weatherford best practices and quality systems
- Contribute to technical publications, conference papers, and industry articles
- Support Health, Safety, and Environment policies and comply with all company standards
- Perform additional MPD-related duties as assigned by management
Skills
- Strong engineering knowledge of MPD, UBD, and air drilling operations
- Proficiency with single-phase and multiphase hydraulic simulators
- Ability to interpret hydraulics, torque and drag, casing design, and real-time drilling data
- Strong project, time, and workload management capabilities
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and engineering software tools
- Ability to lead teams, workshops, and risk assessment sessions
- Professional demeanor with a strong customer service orientation
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in dynamic environments
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline from an accredited institution
- Willingness to travel to remote, offshore, and international locations as required
- Minimum 8+ years of related experience as a Field Engineer or equivalent
