Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Material Engineer to join our dynamic team in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for ensuring that all materials used in our projects comply with project specifications and are approved by all relevant authorities. You will work collaboratively with contractors, supervisors, and quality personnel to maintain the highest standards of material quality, testing, and documentation. This position offers an excellent opportunity to leverage your expertise in material engineering whilst contributing to significant infrastructure projects in the region.
- Review and approve contractor-proposed materials and method statements as delegated by the Resident Engineer, ensuring full compliance with project specifications
- Conduct field inspections of work in progress and contractor daily activities, including on-site performance monitoring and operational guidance
- Attend factory visits and supplier plant inspections to verify material quality and manufacturing processes
- Witness laboratory testing and coordinate approvals from relevant authorities to ensure regulatory compliance
- Review contractor testing requests and analyse completed test reports for accuracy and conformance
- Monitor material delivery performance and verify accuracy of materials used on-site
- Conduct continuous audit inspections to verify conformity to contract documents and contractor-submitted plans
- Maintain detailed records of material tests performed and executed works for audit and compliance purposes
- Issue Non-Conformance Reports (NCR) when material or workmanship is found to be unsatisfactory and identify corrective actions
- Prepare comprehensive written and oral reports to the Resident Engineer on contractual, procedural, and site matters
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with AECOM team members, clients, contractors, vendors, and other stakeholders
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
- Minimum of 12 years of professional experience as a Material Engineer on highways and bridges projects
- Advanced knowledge of design mixes for concrete and asphalt materials
- Comprehensive knowledge of material testing procedures and quality assurance protocols
- Proficiency with computer-aided design (CAD) software and relevant engineering programmes
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with excellent numerical abilities
- Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong organisational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- Excellent teamwork and stakeholder relationship management
Additional Information
- Experience working on projects in the Middle East region
- Experience with regulatory compliance and authority approvals in the construction industry
- Demonstrated ability to produce work to high quality standards and encourage others to do the same
- Experience in vendor and supplier relationship management
- Background in non-conformance reporting and corrective action implementation
