Oliver Wyman is looking to hire a Chief of Staff for the Defense and Security global taskforce.




Job Overview:




The Business Impact Team (BIT) supports the growth of Oliver Wyman by seamlessly enabling business development and management activities.




The Chief of Staff (CoS) has a central role in the strategic and commercial development, operation and community building of Marsh’s and Oliver Wyman’s Defense & Security (D&S) task force. The role provides support to the Oliver Wyman Defense & Security Leadership, in managing the day-to-day affairs of the task force and is a go-to-person for all colleagues for task force-related topics.




The role translates Marsh’s and Oliver Wyman’s Defense & Security vision into clear strategic initiatives, performance metrics, and operational plans. The role is centered on Oliver Wyman’s D&S strategy roll-out but also supports Oliver Wyman’s leadership in their steering of the collaboration across Marsh businesses in the roll-out of Marsh’s D&S growth acceleration strategy. The CoS acts as a thought partner to leadership, orchestrates cross-functional collaboration with Finance, Business Development, Marketing, Legal, Talent, IT, Knowledge, and Events, and ensures that commercial performance, investments, and people decisions are tightly aligned to the business’s strategic goals. This is a high-visibility, high-impact role suited to someone who combines strategic thinking, rigorous analytical skills, strong stakeholder management, and a deep interest in defense, national security, and government-related clients.




Key Responsibilities:




Marsh strategy through implementation:



  • Implement the Marsh Defense and Security Strategy Initiative



  • Stand up security clearance and security office functions in geographies for Marsh



  • Refine Marsh six priority go to market propositions



  • Manage monthly Marsh Defense SteerCos and governance



  • Support the establishment of related risk & compliance governance at Marsh level




Practice management (commercial, people, capability):




Commercial



  • Global account planning



  • Performance against plan tracking



  • New global ventures




People



  • Global & regional pyramid forecasting (supply vs demand)



  • Global & regional recruitment coordination (external & internal)



  • Support to objective setting and professional development




Capability



  • Global partnerships



  • New methods/tools




Business development coordination:
RFP and proposal planning, resourcing and submission ownership
Global proposition development — alongside Partners and Principals




Knowledge management:
Global primer development — content and process
Global credentials management (e.g. for future projects, proposals)
Onboarding of new D&S-affiliated consultants — primers, L&D buddy, etc




Research:
Support to project teams on high-importance topics, coordinating with Knowledge Services




Thought Leadership:
Publication drafting — content role, alongside Partners/Principals
Global campaign management — working with Marketing
Events planning & management — working with Marketing




Experience Required:



  • The ideal candidate will possess 6+ years of experience at a leading management consulting firm; experience with Defense & Security or government clients is strongly preferred.



  • Experience dealing with confidential and business critical issues




Skills and Attributes:



  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Further languages helpful, but not required



  • Ownership mentality with a strong impact focus



  • Initiative and a can-do attitude, with a willingness to embrace new challenges.



  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.



  • Ability to manage a varied workload with conflicting priorities and meet deadlines.



  • Strong judgment and problem-solving skills, particularly under pressure and adhoc tasks



  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with colleagues of all levels



  • Collaborative team player with a positive attitude and adaptability to change.



  • Experience dealing with confidential and business critical issues



  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint; knowledge of advanced data analysis is a plus
