The post holder will work collaboratively with other team members, uphold and live the NMC Nursing Strategy in order to provide safe and outstanding care to their patient, to the patient's bystanders all the time, every time.



Responsibilities:

Registered Nurse will: 


  • Be responsible for providing and coordinating patient care, educating patients and the public about various health conditions, and providing advice and emotional support to patients and their family members.


  • Assess and identify patients' needs and implement and monitor the patient's medical plan and treatment. They will work with a team of physicians and other health care specialists or allied health in various settings.


  • Perform systematic patient assessment, re-assessment and collect pertinent data about the patient’s health or situation.


  • Understand and analyse the assessment information and data.


  • Determine actual and potential nursing diagnoses, problems, and issues.


  • Define the predicted and expected outcomes of the patient’s planned care.


  • Create and evaluate patient care plans with the interprofessional team, in collaboration with the patient and patient's bystanders.


  • Record vital signs, recognize,address and escalate all abnormalities.


  • Maintain and update technical and clinical skills related to nursing practice.


  • Employ strategies to promote patients’ health and a safe environment.


  • Understand different diagnostic tests and laboratory examinations.


  • Perform essential life support as per regulatory requirements and scope such as but not limited to Basic Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation etc.


  • Prepare patients for medical examination and treatment.


  • Administer medications and monitor patients for any side effects and reactions.


  • Administer treatments such as IV fluids or blood products and monitor patients for any reactions.


  • Provide wound care management.


  • Assist in medical procedures invasive or non-invasive as needed.


  • Facilitate the process of safe patient`s admission, transfer and discharge.


  • During the surgical procedure, OT Nurses can take the role of:                                                                                                                      


  • Circulating Nurse, with the following additional duties:                                                                                                                                                            Assists in positioning, responding to comfort / safety of patient.             


  • To assist the Surgeon and Anesthetist in operation theatre.


  • Provides for accurate care and handling of specimens.


  • Observes and enforces strict standards of asepsis.


  • Observes checks and monitors all equipment used during surgery to confirm they are running smoothly.


  • Handles patient documentation.


  • Inventories all items both pre- and post-surgery.


  • Scrub Nurse, with the following additional duties:


  • Select and handles instruments and supplies used for the operation, passing them to surgeon.


  • Inventories all items both pre- and post-surgery.


  • Delivers direct surgical care by assisting physicians.


  • Helps control bleeding.


  • Provides wound exposure.


  • Assist in Sutured patients after the surgery.


  • To count all instruments and mops before closing the wounds.


  • Recovery Room:


  • Assessment, implementation and coordination of complex care and interventions.


  • Providing comfort and preventing suffering.


  • Supporting a compassionate and therapeutic environment for post-operative patients.


  • To monitor the condition and take care of patients post operatively in the recovery room.


  • Demonstrate awareness and compliance with legal and ethical aspects of peri-operative nursing.


  • Demonstrate competence required effective and safe patient care following anesthesia including patent airway techniques, obstructive airway intervention, knowledge of advanced life support techniques, patient monitoring and resuscitation, pharmacology, management and control of acute pain, nausea and vomiting, temperature regulation, life threatening complications, infection control principles and practices.


Liaising with wards where patients are awaiting their operation/procedure in putting information about each surgical procedure/operation on to a computer system, taking phone messages, completing paperwork, ordering supplies of equipment, liaising with the hospital's Sterile Services Department to ensure that equipment has been returned once re-sterilized and re-package.



Qualifications:

Essential: the post holder must


  • Have an appropriate license to work as a registered nurse in the relevant regulatory health authority with all the qualifications and experience these mandates.


  • Manage their own professional re-licensure.


  • Hold a valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support Provider card.


  • Be willing to work across departments when necessary.


  • Be able to communicate clearly and effectively in English (spoken and written)


DESIRABLE: The post holder should have:


  • Evidenced ability to work as part of an inter-professional team.


  • Organizational and administrative skills with which to use the electronic medical record platform for clinical documentation.


Be able to communicate effectively in Arabic
