Roles & Responsibilities
As a Tinter/Color Matcher, you will be responsible for accurately formulating, testing, and adjusting paint products to achieve precise color matching against customer specifications or approved master standards. Ensure consistency in color quality across production batches while maintaining strict adherence to quality, safety, and environmental standards.
The role requires attention to detail, keen eye for color, a thorough understanding of color theory / tinting processes, and the ability to work efficiently in a past-faced environment, operate tinting machines and other equipment safely.
Desired Candidate Profile
1. Color Formulation & Development
Analyze color samples and customer requirements to determine the appropriate tinting formulas.
Accurately mix paints and tints according to specified formulations, adjusting as necessary to achieve desired results.
Utilize color-matching software tools to enhance precision in tinting.
2. Equipment Operation
Safely operate and maintain tinting machines, ensuring they are properly calibrated to accurate results.
Conduct routine maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
3. Quality Control
Perform regular quality checks on mixed products, evaluating color consistency and finish quality.
Document and report any discrepancies or quality issues to the production supervisor for resolution.
4. Inventory and Supply Management
Monitor levels of raw materials, tints, and additives, placing orders as needed to maintain adequate inventory.
Organize and maintain the tinting area to ensure efficient workflow and adherence to safety regulations.
5. Documentation and Reporting
Maintain accurate records of tinting processes, including batch numbers, quantities, and customer specifications.
Prepare reports on production output, equipment performance, and inventory usage for management review.
6. Safety and Compliance
Adhere to all safety protocols and industry regulations, including proper handling of chemicals and hazardous materials.
Participate in safety training programs and maintain a clean organized workspace.
7. Collaboration and Support
Collaborates closely with Production Team and Quality Control to deliver high-quality products.
Work closely with sales and customer service teams to address customer inquiries regarding color matching and product availability.
Provide training and guidance to junior staff on tinting techniques and safety practices.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in paint technology, chemistry or a related field is advantageous.
Minimum of 2-4 years' experience as a Tinter or in a similar role within the paint, coatings, or related manufacturing industry.
Strong understanding of color theory, paint formulations, and mixing techniques.
Proficiency in operating tinting and mixing equipment, with focus on safety and precision.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to work under pressure.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively collaborate with team members and stakeholders.
Safety training and certification in hazardous materials handling are preferred. Additional certifications related to paint technology or quality control processes are a plus.
Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50lbs.
