Role Description The Owner role is a full-time on-site position based in the Kalutara District, responsible for overseeing the strategic direction, operations, and growth of Empathic Computing Laboratory. This role includes setting long-term vision and priorities, evaluating potential research and development initiatives, and ensuring projects align with the laboratory’s mission and ethical standards. The Owner will manage budgets, allocate resources, and establish partnerships with academic institutions, industry collaborators, and community stakeholders. Day-to-day tasks involve supervising staff, coordinating cross-functional work, reviewing project proposals and outcomes, and supporting team members with guidance and feedback. The role also includes shaping organizational culture, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and policies, and representing the laboratory in public, professional, and funding-related engagements.
Qualifications
Demonstrated experience in leading or managing research, innovation, or technology-focused organizations, with the ability to define and execute strategic plans. Strong leadership and people management skills, including mentoring, performance oversight, and the ability to build inclusive, collaborative teams. Knowledge of human-computer interaction, emerging technologies, or related fields, and an interest in empathic or user-centered computing concepts. Proficiency in organizational operations such as budgeting, resource planning, and partnership development, with sound decision-making and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to represent the organization to partners, funders, and the broader community in a clear and professional manner. Ability to work on-site in the Kalutara District and commit to a full-time schedule, with flexibility to respond to evolving organizational needs. Relevant academic background (e.g., in Computer Science, Engineering, Psychology, Human-Computer Interaction, Business, or a related field) or equivalent professional experience. Prior experience with grant writing, fundraising, or building strategic collaborations is highly beneficial.
