Job Details

Kidzapp is the leading platform for family experiences in the UAE and the Gulf. Parents discover, book and pay for kids' activities, classes, camps, attractions and days out, and venues and tour operators sell through us. The product includes a consumer app and website, a merchant portal for venues, an affiliate portal, subscriptions and loyalty, and a large operational admin used daily by our team. The platform has been in production for years and handles real payments, multi-currency pricing, three languages (English, Arabic, Russian), geospatial search and live inventory from partner APIs.

We are a small, senior team based in the UAE, and we build with AI: coding agents such as Claude Code are our daily tools, and AI features (a RAG chatbot on AWS Bedrock, AI translation and content pipelines) are already live in the product.

The role

You will own the Kidzapp backend (Python/Django REST APIs, admin, integrations, infrastructure) and the customer-facing website (Next.js) end to end. This is a full-time, fully remote position for an engineer based in Egypt, paid in USD, working directly with the founders.

What you will do

Own features end to end: scope with the founders, build across Django and Next.js, test, deploy to staging and production, and monitor afterwards.

Extend the versioned Django REST Framework APIs used by our iOS, Android and web clients, and the Django admin our operations team relies on.

Work on booking and payments across Adyen, Checkout.com, Tap, Fatoora and Paymob, including refunds, webhooks, saved cards and subscriptions.

Integrate and maintain inventory partners (Rayna Tours, PrioHub and new providers) with clean handling of availability, price drift and retries.

Build SEO-critical pages, the booking funnel and account flows in Next.js with English and Arabic (RTL) support and strong Core Web Vitals.

Work on our Flutter mobile apps (iOS and Android) when needed: features, fixes and API integration. Flutter is not required for this role, but we want the option, and if you have it you will use it.

Extend our RAG chatbot (Claude on AWS Bedrock plus vector search) into a booking assistant, and build new agents for merchant onboarding, content QA and internal operations.

Maintain OpenSearch indexing and search relevance.

Deploy through GitHub Actions and AWS CodeBuild to ECS, read New Relic and CloudWatch, and fix slow queries and hot paths.

Use Claude Code or similar agents as your primary way of writing code, keep the repo agent-ready (CLAUDE.md, skills, hooks, MCP servers), and raise the bar for the team.

Our stack

Python, Django, Django REST Framework, Celery, Redis, PostgreSQL with PostGIS, OpenSearch, Next.js with React and TypeScript, Flutter mobile apps (iOS and Android), AWS (ECS, RDS, ElastiCache, Lambda, S3, CloudFront, Bedrock), Docker, GitHub Actions, New Relic, pytest and factory_boy. AI: Claude on AWS Bedrock, Titan embeddings, OpenAI GPT-4o for translation, Claude Code for engineering.

Requirements

Must have

  • 4+ years building production web software, including 2+ years with Python and Django (Django REST Framework) on a codebase others depend on. Solid React and Next.js: server-side rendering and static generation, routing, data fetching, SEO, internationalisation including RTL, and TypeScript as a default.

  • Strong PostgreSQL: data modelling, reading query plans, indexing safely, migrations on live data. Experience with money-moving systems (payments, bookings, subscriptions): idempotency, webhooks, retries, reconciliation and refunds.

  • Background jobs (Celery or equivalent), Redis caching, and versioned REST APIs consumed by mobile clients.

  • Comfortable with AWS and Docker: you can deploy a container, read logs and APM traces, and debug production.

  • Testing as a habit: you write tests for your own code and use factories, not fixtures.

  • Ownership: you can turn a short product request into a shipped, monitored feature with minimal handholding.

  • Fluent written English. Most coordination is asynchronous and in writing.

  • Based in Egypt, available full time on UAE working days, with reliable internet and a quiet place to work.

AI fluency

  • You use an agentic coding tool (Claude Code, Codex CLI, Cursor Agent or similar) as your primary way of writing code and can show how you plan, delegate and verify.

  • You know how to make agents effective on a large existing codebase: CLAUDE.md or AGENTS.md, project skills, hooks, MCP servers, subagents.

  • You review AI-generated code critically and know its failure modes: invented APIs, scope creep, weak tests, dangerous commands.

  • You have shipped at least one LLM-powered feature to real users and can explain what worked, what did not, and how you measured it.

  • You understand the Claude API and AWS Bedrock: tool use, structured outputs, streaming, prompt caching, MCP; plus embeddings, vector search and RAG trade-offs.

  • You can design agents with clear boundaries, human-in-the-loop checkpoints where money or customer data is involved, and evals that catch regressions.

Nice to have

  • PostGIS, and search relevance tuning in OpenSearch or Elasticsearch.

  • Marketplace, travel, ticketing or events domain experience, or the Gulf payments landscape (Apple Pay, Tabby, Tamara).

  • Flutter. Our iOS and Android apps are built with Flutter. If you can work on them (features, fixes, releases) alongside the backend and website, that is a strong plus, and you will get the chance to.

  • Terraform or AWS CDK, Lambda, AWS cost optimisation.

  • Authoring MCP servers, the Claude Agent SDK, or evaluation harnesses for LLM features.

  • Public work we can look at: open source, a blog, or a project shipped with an AI agent where the commit history is visible.
