Privacy Counsel - MEA Region

Apple is seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and proactive (Senior) Privacy Counsel to join its team, focusing on privacy and data protection across the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region with a particular focus on the Middle East. In this role, you will provide expert legal advice and strategic guidance on regional privacy and data protection laws, collaborating with Apple’s global Privacy and Legal teams to ensure compliance with local requirements. You will monitor and evaluate evolving privacy regulations and political developments, advising on their potential impact on Apple's business. Additionally, you will engage with policymakers, regulators, and industry stakeholders to advocate for Apple's interests and support its business operations by managing privacy risks in the region's unique regulatory environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 4-6 years of experience in privacy, data protection, or technology law in a law firm, government, or in-house environment.
  • Deep expertise and understanding of privacy laws and regulations across the Middle East and Africa, particularly in key jurisdictions in the Middle East such as UAE and KSA.
  • Strong foundational background in GDPR and its implications for data protection practices globally.
  • Bachelor of Law, J.D., LL.B, or equivalent legal degree.

  • A good basic understanding of emerging African privacy laws and their impact on data protection compliance.
  • Proven ability to advise on complex regulatory and political issues impacting privacy and data protection in the MEA region.
  • Experience working with government agencies, regulators, and other stakeholders in the Middle East.
  • Experienced in handling privacy inquiries, complaints and incidents.
  • Experience in privacy by design reviews and projects, doing data protection impact assessments (DPIA).
  • Experience in setting up international data transfer frameworks.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to balance legal risks with business needs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex legal concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Fluency in English is required; proficiency in Arabic is a plus.
  • Experience working in a global organization, managing multiple stakeholders, and cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise good judgment, and take initiative in a fast-paced environment.
