JOB SUMMARY

The Department Chair of Breast Surgery is a senior physician leader responsible for the strategic, clinical, academic, and operational leadership of the Breast Surgery Department at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi (CCAD).This role carries full accountability for program growth, clinical excellence, faculty development, research advancement, and regional reputation, ensuring alignment with CCAD's mission, values, and long-term strategic plan. The Chair is expected to build and expand a high-performing breast program, including surgical oncology, oncoplastic and reconstructive collaboration, multidisciplinary cancer care, education, and research, positioning CCAD as a regional and international referral center for comprehensive breast care.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Clinical Responsibilities


  • Provides expert clinical care in Breast Surgery, including operative and non-operative management.
  • Maintains an active clinical practice consistent with leadership responsibilities.
  • Ensures delivery of high-quality, safe, patient-centered, and culturally sensitive care.
  • Adheres to approved clinical privileges and all Medical Staff policies and procedures.
  • Collaborates closely with Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Plastic Surgery, Radiology, Pathology, Genetics, and Nursing to ensure integrated multidisciplinary care

Strategic & Program Development Responsibilities


  • Develops and executes a clear strategic vision for the Breast Surgery Department aligned with CCAD and Cancer Institute priorities.
  • Leads growth and expansion of the breast program, including:
    • Clinical volume and complexity
    • Subspecialty services (e.g., high-risk clinics, survivorship, oncoplastic surgery)
    • Multidisciplinary and integrated care pathways
  • Identifies opportunities to enhance CCAD's role as a regional referral and destination center for breast care.
  • Recommends investments in technology, infrastructure, staffing, and innovation to support sustainable program growth.
  • Ensures alignment with national and international quality benchmarks and accreditation standards where applicable

Leadership & Administrative Responsibilities


  • Defines the department's scope and direction across patient care, education, research, and quality.
  • Creates a culture of excellence, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Participates in institutional leadership forums as required.
  • Collaborates with other Department Chairs and Institute leadership to advance cross-departmental initiatives.
  • Represents the Breast Surgery Department internally and externally at institutional, regional, and international levels.

Operational & Quality Responsibilities


  • Oversees departmental performance related to quality metrics, outcomes, patient experience, productivity, and resource utilization.
  • Ensures availability and transparency of clinical outcomes data and physician-level performance metrics.
  • Leads quality improvement initiatives and ensures compliance with CCAD policies, regulatory standards, and best practices.
  • Identifies operational inefficiencies and implements solutions in collaboration with Nursing and Administration

Fiscal Responsibilities


  • Helps develop the departmental budget with the Institute administration.
  • Monitors financial performance and explains variances.
  • Ensures cost-effective utilization of resources without compromising quality of care.
  • Ensures departmental expenditures comply with CCAD financial policies

Faculty & Human Capital Responsibilities


  • Assists in recruitment, selection, onboarding, and retention of Breast Surgery faculty.
  • Conducts annual professional reviews and performance evaluations.
  • Mentors faculty in clinical excellence, leadership development, education, and research.
  • Promotes faculty engagement, professional growth, and succession planning.
  • Supports education and training programs, including residents, fellows, and allied health professionals as applicable.

Academic & Research Responsibilities


  • Promotes and supports clinical research, outcomes research, and academic scholarship.
  • Encourages participation in national and international meetings, publications, and collaborations.
  • Partners with institutional research leadership to expand breast-focused research initiatives.
  • Ensures education and research efforts align with CCAD's academic mission

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS


  • For physicians from Tier 1 countries: minimum of two (2) years post-qualification experience beyond specialty certification.
  • For physicians from Tier 2 countries: minimum of five (5) years post-qualification experience beyond specialty certification.
  • Demonstrated progressive leadership experience in Breast Surgery, Surgical Oncology, or a related academic or tertiary care setting.
  • Proven ability to build, grow, and lead clinical programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and complex clinical operations.
  • Fluency in English required; Arabic preferred.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS


  • MD, MBBS, MBChB or equivalent basic medical degree
    • Completion of recognized specialty training in Breast Surgery or Surgical Oncology as per Healthcare Professionals Qualification Requirements 2024

This strategically located multi-specialty tertiary care facility with adjacent clinic houses five clinic floors, three diagnostic and treatment levels, and thirteen floors of critical and acute inpatient units totaling 364 beds (expandable to 490). Additional space has been incorporated for operational and support departments, retailers, a conference center, and a high-fidelity clinical simulation center.
