Job Summary
As a Director, Digital Assets Risk based in Dubai, you will take a pivotal role in overseeing and advancing the framework surrounding Digital Assets (DA) within the organisation. This position involves critical review and strategic challenge of digital asset initiatives, projects, and investments, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and the bank’s risk appetite. You will act as a key adviser in regulatory engagement and framework development, influencing not only the bank’s approach but also contributing to wider Group activities such as training, financial reporting, and risk management processes including ICAAP.
In this role, you will partner closely with business units and risk teams to embed robust risk assessment methodologies and governance structures. Your expertise will help shape the strategic direction of the bank’s digital asset activities, ensuring these ventures contribute positively to business growth while maintaining compliance and managing inherent risks effectively. This role requires a proactive thinker and motivated self-learner who is comfortable with complex risk environments, capable of navigating evolving regulatory landscapes and supporting continuous improvement within the Digital Asset Risk framework.
Key Responsibilities Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Leadership and Strategy: Conduct comprehensive risk assessments on all major digital asset initiatives and investments, ensuring alignment with overall business strategy and regulatory expectations.
- Regulatory & Governance Oversight: Manage the Digital Assets Risk Committee (DRC), facilitating regular meetings, tracking effectiveness, and implementing improvements to governance practices.
- Risk Framework Development: Develop, enhance, and implement risk management frameworks specific to digital assets, including oversight of operational, reputational, treasury, and traded risk components.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work collaboratively across business, compliance, legal, and technology teams to ensure integrated risk management and smooth execution of digital asset projects.
- Training & Development: Design and deliver training workshops and programs aimed at elevating the organisation’s knowledge, awareness, and compliance on digital asset risk management and regulatory requirements.
- Regulatory Engagement: Provide expert advisory during regulatory consultations and engagements to ensure the bank’s interests are represented and regulatory developments are anticipated and addressed effectively.
- Reporting & Monitoring: Oversee the preparation of regular reporting on the digital asset risk profile, exposures, and compliance status for senior leadership and internal committees.
- Continuous Improvement: Champion a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the digital asset risk space, encouraging proactive identification and addressing of emerging risks.
Skills and Experience
- Strong experience in risk management in financial services, with specialised knowledge in digital asset risk.
- Proven expertise in operational, reputational, traded, and treasury risk management tailored to digital asset initiatives.
- Strong project management and coordination skills, demonstrated in delivering complex risk frameworks and assessments.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities, enabling effective collaboration with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel and PowerPoint to prepare detailed reports and presentations for executive committees.
- Self-motivated with the capability to operate autonomously in high-pressure environments, exhibiting resilience and adaptability.
- Analytical mindset with a pragmatic approach to identifying risks and proposing actionable solutions.
- Experience in facilitating workshops and training sessions to build organisational capability in digital asset risk.
Qualifications Essential Qualifications:
- Demonstrable hands-on experience with digital asset-related risks, encompassing both financial and non-financial elements, and strong familiarity with the digital asset ecosystem.
- Background in banking or financial services with evidence of upskilling in areas including Financial Markets, Prime Lending, Venture Capital, Venture Building, and Investments.
- Prior experience conducting regulatory impact assessments, engaging with regulators, and managing senior-level committee governance is preferred.
- Track record in designing, implementing, and refining risk policies and frameworks, ideally within digital asset contexts.
- Understanding of Group-level activities such as risk appetite setting, financial reporting obligations, and the ICAAP process.
- Proven programme and project management capabilities, with experience in leading cross-functional initiatives.
- High proficiency in preparing thorough and compelling papers and presentations for executive and board-level audiences.
- Creativity and a drive for continuous improvement to enhance risk management practices and outcomes.
