Senior planning engineer

Responsible for supporting project controls by reviewing, monitoring, and validating construction schedules to ensure alignment with approved baseline programs and key project milestones. The role involves evaluating contractor progress, manpower allocation, recovery plans, and time-impact claims while conducting regular site visits to verify schedule compliance and identify potential delays. Working closely with the controls manager and construction manager, the position contributes to progress reporting, schedule risk mitigation, and executive project updates. The role also supports schedule-related assessments of design changes, commissioning plans, and project close-out documentation to ensure effective delivery of residential and mid-rise construction projects within a PMC/consultancy environment.

General description of role and responsibilities:

  • Review/comment the baseline schedule and other schedules and report to the controls manager.
  • Review and continuously monitor, against approved schedules, the contractor's major construction progress and ensure equipment and manpower are adequate or in case of any shortage report to controls manager.
  • Review in detail the recovery schedules as submitted by the contractors and ensure manpower and site supervision staff are increased properly.
  • Regular visits to project sites to validate whether the progress of work on site is in compliance with approved schedules, major milestones have been met and report deficiencies to construction manager.
  • Review all daily, weekly, and monthly reports as submitted by contractor and report to controls manager any deficiency or non-compliance.
  • Review any claim involving time impact as submitted by the contractor and report his assessment to controls manager.
  • Review field design changes and trend notices and assess time impact if any.
  • Advise the construction manager of any foreseen slippage of progress and corrective actions to be taken.
  • Attend weekly progress meeting and monthly executive meetings and participate in preparing the agenda.
  • Assist controls managers during the preparation of monthly progress reports and monthly executive presentations.
  • Review the commissioning plans as submitted by the contractor and ensure compliance with the approved baseline schedule.
  • Participate with PMC staff in reviewing the close-out reports as submitted by the contractor.

Qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills:

  • Should be qualified engineer with BSc or higher.
  • Relevant certifications such as PMP are preferred.
  • A minimum of 12 to 15 years' experience working on complex projects end-to-end within the construction field.
  • Experience in building (residential/tower project).
  • Experience in consulting/PMC is mandatory.
  • Having previous project experience in residential, mid-rise is essential.
  • Must be fully conversant with Primavera, Microsoft Project, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Ability to think ahead, identify new opportunities and create new and innovative approaches to work-related issues.
